I'm looking for some experience with this load. I'm loading the 120 gr. Nosler partition and new wby brass. What powders are giving the best velocity and accuracy with this bullet? I keep h-4831, rl-22, and H1000 in stock. I have a savage 110 w/ a 26" shilen match 1 in 10" twist.

Share your loads also if you don't mind.

Re: help with 257wby load

I won't share my load since I use a 25'06Ackley, but there are some powders that you could start with and that I have used. H4831, W760 and particularly, R-22. BB

Re: help with 257wby load

I don't run 120's in my 257 WBY as I got better accuracy with the 100's. I run 72 grains of RL-22 with a barnes 100 and get 3605 fps. A smoking hunting load. Pressure is right below max in my rifle, you should consult the manuals and work up from there. This particular load in my rifle will shoot 2 inch 3 shots at 300 yds. I load alot of WBYS in this case family and RL 22 must be looked at, it just seems to always give top velocity and accuracy>Good Luck

Re: help with 257wby load

I have similar experience as winddoper. I found a long time ago that the 100 grain bullet did it all. In my case, the 100 Nosler Ballistic tip at 3650fps. I know it's crazy, but with about 14 grains less powder, I get 257Weatherby performance, but only in 100 grain. 120 bullets in the Weatherby easily beat my numbers.

I had a different 25'06AI (stolen) and it always used H4831 so was very surprised that R22 unexpectedly gave me an honest 200fps more velocity while H4831 was right in there, equal with the other barrel. I think R22 might be the powder in high capacity quarter bores?

By the way, my twist is 1 in 13, because of the speed stabilizes the 100 Nosler and up to at least the 117Sierra Spitzer; in my experience. I think people make a mistake in ordering too fast a barrel twist which I believe causes increased throat erosion. If you don't need it, don't get it. Personal opinion. BB

Re: help with 257wby load

I ordered everything last night to start developing a load in a few weeks. I have an abundance of h1000 and rl22 to use and going to pick up some imr7828 from the reviews it has got in the 257wby. I will be shooting the 120 gr nosler partition.
