i have been working on loads for a stock sendero sfII and so far i havn't been getting the groups i would like. my current load is 70g retumbo pushing 162 amax with a 3.385, first load was 3.290 COAL like the book says. i have started with 68gr and worked up to the 70. i have read that with the 1/9.5 twist being a little slow for the amax i might want to push them a little faster can anyone give me any insight to this, and also tell me some of the COAL you are running in a stock remington chamber with the amax?

I've got an original version ('97) Sendero and earlier in the year I fiddled with loading for a 1000 yards

I'm trying H-4831sc, RL-19, RL-22, H-1000, and H-4350 to begin with. Bullets are 150 Nosler BTs, 150 SMKs, 162 Hornady HPBT National Match and 168 SMKs. I'm seating out past 3.400" IIRC.

I can get the 150s up to 3000 fps with little effort, with the Noslers being more accurate at my dinky 100yd local range. The 162/168s, I'd like to try to get them up to 2900ish. I've got some RL-25, some VV-165 and VV-170 to play with, but I kind of slowed down on the development and stopped shooting over the summer.

Try different powders, but Retumbo does get good marks. Try different bullets, as well, as maybe your tube doesn't like Powder X or Bullet Z.

I don't have the specifics you are looking for, but Chris is absolutely right. My AR will shoot anything with RL 15, and when dialed in the bullet holes will touch when shooting from the sandbags.

This same gun will make a target look like it was hit with buckshot with anything that is loaded over Varget.

The 162 AMAX can probably, much like VLDs, stand to be jammed into the lands a bit. Just drop down and work back up if you do.

Re: help with 7mm mag load for sendero

I found R22 to work best for my set up. I run a Krieger barrel and space off the shoulder. I shoot the Amax as well finding a small jump to provide much better accuracy than jammed in the lands.

Re: help with 7mm mag load for sendero

My 7 rem mag likes 160 accubonds with 65 grains rl-22. I seat mine to 3.335. Your barrel twist shouldn't have any problem stabilizing all the way up to 180's. I would shoot for 3000 fps+ with your 162 a-maxes.

Re: help with 7mm mag load for sendero

'update' i had some imr4831 setting around and loaded up 60gr with the amax's groups tighted up quite a bit so i'm goin to start testing differnt loads of this. By the way why is the IMR4831 seldom talked about as a powder on this site, am i missing somthing?

Re: help with 7mm mag load for sendero

IMR4831 and H4831 are close but NOT THE SAME.

I used to Run IMR4831 in my 7 rem mag, but switched to H4831. The loads changed a little bit, but DO NOT switch between the two.

Look for some H4831sc, it meters better through the powder measure, but I have switched between the two without noticing a different.

RL22 is also great, I found it to burn a little dirty tell I got up into the MAX pressure range. Shoot well with great Velocity. I thought H4831 was more consistent.

Seat the bullets to mag length and work you load from there, en-less you want to single feed. Also, I have had great luck with the 160 Accubonds. They preform well on game and have a pretty good BC for a true hunting bullet.

Re: help with 7mm mag load for sendero

Old post, but I thought I'd chime in. In my sendero 7mm rem mag I have had good results with H1000 and 160gr nosler accubonds and 168gr bergers. I use nosler brass and fed 215 mag primers. I still have some tweaking to do with the berger loads but it seems to be a pretty good configuration. I tried retumbo, rl22 and 4831sc, they all seemed to give me poor groups and high es. My load of choice now is 70.5 gr H1000 with the bergers seated to the lands. It's a fun caliber to play with for sure.
