I do not want to repeat any previous post but i need a little help. I just sold my delton on this sight this past week. I want to step up a little bit and purchase a middle to high end Ar. My budget is about $1400. I know the LWRC, Noveske, and Larue OBR are little out of my price range..but i was wondering how people like Daniel Defense.. there priced about the same as the Larue PredatAr..is one better than the other? can you find the the Noveskes etc..used in my range? I want a 16" light gun and plan on putting a aimpoint t1 on it. thanks everyone

Re: help with an AR

Daniel Defense builds a great gun. The barrel may not be quite as accurate as you'll see with the Larue, but you're looking for a lightweight upper with a red dot...it will still be very accurate. It will also use standard parts so that you aren't shoehorned into the whole proprietary thing.

I wouldn't even consider a piston for a light gun...and nobody does lightweight barrels like BCM and Daniel Defense. If you're cool with a carbine gas length, then Colt 6720's can be found south of $1000...and they certainly set the gold standard.

ETA:If someone is charging $1700 for an LMT...well I don't know what to say. LMT is a great gun, but only their piston goes for that much...and there isn't much reason to go piston.

Re: help with an AR

Look at BCM and Daniel Defense, they are both top notch battle worthy makers. Both their mid-length gassers have M4 feedramps, so you can have the best of both worlds. Both are on par with Colt/LMT. You won't be dissapointed with any of those.

Re: help with an AR

Re-read your OP, and saw you wanted something light, DD has a light barrel version. I've held one, and with a rail it is as light as my BCM Mod 0 with plastic hanguard and A2 front sights, maybe even slightly lighter.....

Their new Version 7 with modular rail

This one ships w/10 rd. mag instead....

Re: help with an AR

i know this is a bit extreme to do this as a selling point, but i shared this video a while back, and what they actually do to this gun is pretty crazy. when i originally posted it, some trolls started throwing around the "Daniel Defense Fanboy" claim at me for posting it; i don't even own a DD, i just thought it was a cool video to watch and share. enjoy!

Re: help with an AR

i watched that video when you orginally posted it.. it is pretty amazing. i think the fact that the aimpoint was able to perform the way it did, was even more impressive..

Re: help with an AR

totally! that was probably the most impressive part of the "test" was the durability of the optic.

*sorry, i don't mean to throw your thread off topic. to go back to your original post, the one time i handled a DD light barrel m4 carbine was at the range, handling a friend's gun. i can't say anything to accuracy since i didn't shoot it, but if it's lightweight you're looking for, great choice for sure. my bcm/rra gun started out as lightweight, but has turned into a beast with everything i've done to it (now an 18" dmr-ish gun).

if there's anything i've found to lighten a gun, barrel and forearm/handguard are the easiest for weight savings!

Re: help with an AR

LMT,DD,BCM,Colt.. all will serve you well. I have more experence with the LMTs and BCM than DD or Colt but all have a great reputation and build top notch rifles. Just a thought but why dont you just build your own? Thats what I do anymore and it saves you money in the long run because you can put in it what you want and dont have a bunch of parts left over from changing tuff out on your off the shelf gun. If you have never done this its not that hard and there is a great amount of guys on here (myself included) that could help you out along the way.

Re: help with an AR

what operator said sorry didnt see that post. I have built six so far an there is an ocean of info for assembley and its pretty darn satisifying when you go the range with something you built that shoots sub moa. I shot a three shot group at 200 yards at the range today with one my builds that you could cover with a dime.

Re: help with an AR

You can get a new Noveske for right around 1450 depending on what exactly your looking for

Riflegear.com usually has some below retail prices on Noveske gear, take a look there.
I bought my first rifle complete (Noveske N6), and am currently in the process of building my second in 5.56. Good luck on your search

Re: help with an AR

I have both DD and Noveske uppers. Both are good to go and are considered to be "upper tier", along with a few others. The 14.5" DD LW (/w permed muzzle device)and an Aimpoint micro - became my house gun after I ran it hard and used it in a few CQB matches.
