I just let that glorious thunder roll on through, but lever guns are tuns of fun so if this is your first it definitely wont be your last and 30-30 is no slouch.
Ya i've had a few Henry's and wasn't too fond of them.
I have a Marlin 1894CST in .357 that is quite fun. Unless you can get the Henry in the side loading 30-30, I'd look at a Marlin or Win94. That whole front-load-gotta-take-the-rod-out-bullshit has always been a deal breaker for me... .22's being the obvious exception.
I also have an Uberti 1873 lever gun in .357...and damn that thing is sweet
Sent my Henry (evil Roy in 22lr) in for warranty service. The gun stopped feeding and the trigger was some how scratching the bottom of the lever...this is what they sent back. I have always had good luck with Henry and called them up and they told me the larger loop lever is back ordered but whenever they get them back in stock they will send me a new one...
A dude I used to work with asked me one day if I knew how he could dispose of a few old guns. Ended up getting a free Glenfield 30-30 (Kmart version of the Marlin 336) and a Remington 1100 12 gauge. I added a scout rail and a cheap Vortex scout scope. It's fun as hell to shoot!
