I have exactly $9,280 to spend on a new rifle and scope. I'm considering this -

And S&B glass.

Obviosly this good stuff, but the question is - should I build my own?

Again this is a high class problem, I came into some money and am going to spend it all on guns.
Please keep the asshole/your're lucky coments to yourself.

thanks,

JP

....you're a bastard... <--- jealous

as for the question, I would definitely want to build my own rifle.

Re: High class problem

An Accuracy International is also an option or an R&D Precision build. That's a difficult problem you got there..... The primary questions you need to ask yourself are:

1. Can you find the features you want in a pre-built rifle?
2. Are you patient enough to wait for a build?

Re: High class problem

The Accuracy International will be a literal tank, and both will be more than accurate enough. The AI is prebuilt, so you will have to decide weather or not it has everything you will want in your build. The R&D precision can be built exactly like you want, but your gonna have to wait for it. If I was you, I would go with the AI and be the happiest SOB in Oklahoma. Good luck with whatever you choose, either will serve you well.

Re: High class problem

There are many customs that are well worth the coin, GAP is another.Keep in mind most cases ( especially this time of year)the demand is high and you'll likely be waiting maybe a year unless you find something in stock somewhere.Another route to consider is one of the many sweet rifles being unloaded for various reasons sometimes at quite a nice price with no wait.Another option is build your own, of course with a gunsmith help unless you are one, but you'd better have some idea of what you want, can't just walk in a shop and say " I'm Joe, I've got 10k and want a rifle".Do some reading and research...we may assume you know little as you've told us even less.

Re: High class problem

$4438 is on the steep side of things. There are many individuals who can build you a great rifle. My experience has been with GAP. They can build you exactly what you want for probably a lot less. Remember buy once cry once. Good luck with your purchase.

Re: High class problem

quite a predicament, I would buy several less expensive quality rifles though, like, for exemple, a good AR10 and either a TRG22 or AI either with excellent optics.
hope this helps.

Re: High class problem

The cost is sort a 6 of one and half dozen the other. I have had four full up custom rifles build and they all cost about the same after its all said and done...all $4000-$5000 (Tac Ops-KMW-Surgeon built by Alan Warner-TBA). After you get averything you want...all the little doodads that you thing you need...they seem to come out about the same. If you like the Surgeon get it...there's no wait! If you build there is a good chance you won't have your gun back from the gunsmith for 9-12 months.

Accuracy international---awesome....simply awesome...but from what I've seen they run about $5000-$6000 ( http://www.eurooptic.com/accuracy-international-aw-rifles.aspx ).

I guess I'm saying buy the Surgeon or AI or TRG-22 and you probably won't be able to tell the difference in accuracy.

Build a gun from scratch prepare to wait...shortest time was for my KMW (7months) longest was my TBA (18months).

Re: High class problem

Before you go out spending cash you might want to sit back and ask yourself some questions.

1. what do I want from this rifle (long range shooting, medium range etc)

2.What caliber is going to achieve #1

3.How easy is this caliber to reload and what other costs do I have for reloading. Are the components for this caliber in good supply and cheap enough for me to continue shooting it after my windfall is gone.

4. What action am I going to use. Is a blueprinted remington going to be good enough, do I go full custom or do I buy off the rack.

5.What gunsmiths can do the job, what are the leadtimes and can I afford to wait.

You are in the fortunate position to obtain your dream set up, If it were me I would look at full custom in my caliber of choice and dont look back.

Re: High class problem

TacOps Alpha-66, and one of SB, USO or Premier high mag range scopes. I'd ask MikeR also if he'd make you a .338LM on the Baker Special stock. Now THAT would be serious long range accuracy!
