i keep wondering why some high end and somewhat high mag euro scopes have no AO of any kind. i speak specifically about the 2-12 swaro, but there are others, usally designated as "hunting" scopes. why is this? and how badly would that degrade performance at longer ranges? especially in the setting of 65 y.o. eyes with trifocals and some astigmatism. i have found i need it over 10x range not withstanding. input and thoughts please.

yea, that's my impression and question. why? for hunting i don't see much use for mag> 10x and maybe not over 6x. varmit hunting is a different set of things. i'm refering to "big" game, deer etc. how handicapping would lack of AO be out to say 600yd? say,in the presence of less than good eyes?

I couldn't tell you there, I'm lucky to still have a good set of eyes. The only scopes I have ever used that were not parralax adjustable while not as precisely focused as their counterparts, were still quite usable as a hunting optic for some distance, at least half a mile I'd say.
