Suppressors HK 45 Owners

Re: HK 45 Owners

"For me" I am not a big fan of the combo safe/decocker lever, however I am a big fan of my HKs (plural). Coming from primarialy shooting 1911s, my first HK was a USP 40 ~15 years ago and I set it up with a "Variant 3" decocker only configuration because: if I have a DA/SA pistol why would I want to add the extra step in taking a safety off? You may forget under pressure to take a safety off, but if you forget under pressure to pull the trigger you are using the wrong tool - get a baseball bat. All my HKs that have this lever are "Variant 3". Train yourself to shoot it with your thumb "off" the decocking lever, works for me (you dont shoot a Sig with your thumb riding the decocking lever, just the safety on the 1911).

The HK is not a 1911, trying to compare it to or operate it as a 1911, IMHO, is flawed. As a disclamer, when I do carry, it is an Officer 1911....

Go out and shoot a few, buy the gun that fits you then train with it..take some classes try and shoot IDPA at your local club.

Re: HK 45 Owners

There is a lot of inaccurate information floating around in this thread.

The first being there are larger capacity magazines than 10rd. The USP has higher capacity mags but the HK45 does not.

There is no flaw with the decoker/safety, its worked fine for decades.

The DA trigger pull is fine on the LEM. If you want a DAO buy a LEM.

The rattle is probably the white plastic piece on the recoil rod as part of the recoil reduction system. It slides back and forth.

Just opinions and facts

Re: HK 45 Owners

I'm very rarely looking for advice..hearing about someone's experience is worth much more. For example Rafael's posts on the Sig P250..his magazine woes, Sig providing him with new magazines, and the hundreds of rds he has put through the gun without a failure.

I could care less about safety and decocker discussions, I train enough to trust myself to make a first rd DA shot...not to mention I wouldn't be buying it as a carry gun. I do appreciate the feedback on the notch at the bottom of the trigger guard as this is not the first time I have heard of this.

Jarvis Barrels....or you can just buy a tactical model. or go to a good smith and have him make you one

The USP comes with 10rd or 12rd mags (.45acp) depending on the state laws in your area. I have 3 12rd mags that came with mine.

Jarvis makes barrels for the USP45 not the HK45.

HK makes barrels for the HK45 and HK45C. I have the HK45C threaded barrel I run with an Evo45. I also run the same suppressor on a USP45CT.

The CT barrel is slightly different but will function in an HK45C. I was told by HK it was a huge no no but a lot of people use them.

I have the actual HK45C threaded barrel that HK took about 289 bucks from me for.

They make the full size HK45 barrel, but there haven't been any imported from HK Germany this year that I'm aware of. The HK45 full-size barrels were last rumored to come into country in September but that evidently didn't happen.

There are HK45C barrels sitting at HK-USA because I've ordered several for friends and my own all in the past few months.

Re: HK 45 Owners

I know someone's who had the USPTactical downrange for a bit of time. They were great. Worked in very dusty conditions. Although weapon maintenance was done, staying on top of the magazines was of particular importance.
Otherwise, great accuracy.
One Jarvis barrel was tried; accurate...however, not completely reliable with occassional failures to feed. Caveat-maybe not enough break-in rounds were sent thru. But then again, I am also of a mind that combat arms should be reliable Right-out-of-the-Box! Ala, Glock or SIG, etc.
Now for the decocker/DA-SA issue. Or non-issue,IMO.
The USP system of carrying the weapon safety engaged with the hammer EITHER up or down is immaterial. These UPS's were regularly carried with cocked/locked, or, locked/hammer down.
Never an issue.
If one "accidently" engages the decocker function while attempting to off safe the weapon, then IMO that operator is negligent due to poor training and familiarity with his weapon system. More training is due, otherwise get a different weapon you can properly operate.
BTW, these USP's use/operation compares directly to others who had the Mk23. IMO, the Mk23 was un-necessarily complicated due to its extra levers. Granted, it was designed that way for various reasons. However, in actual use, the majority of the Mk23's were carried hammer down/safety not engaged (basically just like how a SIG226 already operates; ironic). This, most likely due weapon familiarity. Too many bells and whistles to remember what's what...so, reduce it to its simplist terms.
(Also, the idiotic decision to make the Mk23 magazine propietary directly correlates to the knuckleheads who decided the SCAR heavy's magazine should not interchange with the SR25?! STUPID! Question: In the midst of a firefight; How much would it have been worth to be able to toss another guy a full USP mag to an empty Mk23? Any takers?
Mark my word, that is going to cost a troop his life one day if not fixed).
Bottom line; the USP was the preferred weapon.

Re: HK 45 Owners

I have a HK45C and absolutely love it. It shoots very well and has been 100% reliable. It uses USP 45 Compact mags or HK45C mags. Only real difference is the floorplate. Sure they're pricey but how many mags do you really need? I have 5 and that's plenty for me. The decocker works fine. It would be extremely difficult to accidentally engage the decocker when disengaging the safety. There is more resistance and a lot more travel. The 45C is almost the same size as my G19...being only slightly taller. I've been completely happy with it and couldn't ask for much more. The only thing I'd change would be to ditch the polymer trigger for a metal one. Maybe someone will make an aftermarket trigger at some point or does already. I also plan on picking up a STI 1911 soon. Most people that don't like HK's just bitch because the price. You get what you pay for. Buy a cheap anything and chances are it's going to suck. Spend decent money after a little research and you end up being satisfied. Try one before you buy if you can. I'd recommend trying the 45C. Couldn't really ask for much more accuracy wise out of a pistol and it's a whole lot easier to conceal than a full size HK45. Good luck in your decision!
