Re: HK 45 Owners
"For me" I am not a big fan of the combo safe/decocker lever, however I am a big fan of my HKs (plural). Coming from primarialy shooting 1911s, my first HK was a USP 40 ~15 years ago and I set it up with a "Variant 3" decocker only configuration because: if I have a DA/SA pistol why would I want to add the extra step in taking a safety off? You may forget under pressure to take a safety off, but if you forget under pressure to pull the trigger you are using the wrong tool - get a baseball bat. All my HKs that have this lever are "Variant 3". Train yourself to shoot it with your thumb "off" the decocking lever, works for me (you dont shoot a Sig with your thumb riding the decocking lever, just the safety on the 1911).
The HK is not a 1911, trying to compare it to or operate it as a 1911, IMHO, is flawed. As a disclamer, when I do carry, it is an Officer 1911....
Go out and shoot a few, buy the gun that fits you then train with it..take some classes try and shoot IDPA at your local club.
