Hey ya'll, lookin for some input from the HK gurus out there.

Brand new HK45 - 250 flawless rounds thru it so far and i can conclude that it is extremely precise (1inch groups at 10-15 yards 2 hands unsupported, which is as good as I can do anyway)

BUT...

it is printing groups 1.25 inches high and 1.25 right at only 10 yards. Now I can drift the rear sight but any ideas on the elevation? Guess I will have to get some Heinie eights, wanted some anyway. It is like this thing is sighted in for 50 yards or something. At 25 yards it is about 2.5-3 inches high.

By the way, those results are with a six oclock hold (ie point of aim is on bottom edge of desired point of impact, not behind the front sight).

You think HK installed a short front sight for some reason? Anyone else have an HK45 who could chime in?

If I understand you correctly, your sight picture is "pumpkin on a post?" Your HK has the point of impact at the top of the front sight so with a 6 o'clock hold you would be shooting low.
With most European handguns, factory sights hold at impact, meaning to shoot a bullseye on a 5 " target at 25 yds., you would hold right at the 10 ring, not at the bottom edge of the target. So shooting high is confusing?

He is holding 6 o'clock or "pumpkin on a fencepost". However, when he holds there it impacts ABOVE his intended POI. This means the front sight is too short. OP, there are posts on how to calculate foresight height change to get POI at POA. Find one, do the math and order the new front sight.

Thanks everyone. Yep, "pumpkin on a post" results in shooting high. Seems unusual to me to as I expected the poi to be behind the front sight.

Here is an equation from Brownells here.

If anyone has installed the heinie sights did it change your poi?

KY,

That is the equation that I have seen. If you have calipers, measure the front and rear sight height. From there, go to Heinie's website and figure out what you need. If they have a rear sight that is the same as stock, just get a front sight that is the correct height more than stock. For example, if you find you need .015" more height from the formula and the stock component measures .175, then you need a front sight .190" high.

When I installed Heinie sights of the same height as my originals on my 1911 they hit at the same POA as before.
