Anyone tried this new powder? I bought a pound to try in 223. From the press release:
Shoot More, Clean Less With Hodgdon® CFE™223 Powder

Press Release from Chris Hodgdon

Shawnee Mission Kansas, October 2011 – Imagine a powder that greatly deters copper fouling while you shoot! It’s here, Hodgdon® introduces CFE™223 powder.

Originally developed for U.S. rapid fire military systems, CFE™223 incorporates this proprietary chemistry named “Copper Fouling Eraser.” Match shooters, Varmint hunters and AR enthusiasts will benefit considerably with longer periods of top accuracy with less barrel cleaning time.

Reload data for CFE™223 is available in 27 different cartridges with 147 loads. Maximum velocities are obtained in the 204 Ruger, 5.56 NATO/223 Remington, 22-250 and 7.62 NATO/308 Winchester at hodgdon.com in the Reloading Data Center.

CFE™223 is a spherical powder that meters flawlessly

Re: HODGDON CFE 223

I just got a keg to try myself in .223, 22-250, and .308. I'm guessing they found a better way to use an old trick - adding a little tin to the formula to help reduce copper fouling.

I notice from the Hodgdon data that it burns a little slower than Varget. I'm thinking I won't try in in my M1A since Varget is already on the bubble for developing too much port pressure. It may cause extra banging around in an AR-10, too. Too bad since those high-volume guns could use the advantage of less copper buildup.

I also notice it develops more velocity than most of the other powders at comparable pressures, according to the Hodgdon data. That and being clean might make this a winner for varmint rounds. A plus for my old slow-twist .223 varmint gun, as well.
