I hate to ask a dumb question but why do most "GROUP" shooters show groups WAY WAY off target? Like some of the above he is shooting at a circle target and his group is down by the recycle symbol. I am going to assume it is not to shoot out the point of aim, but that far seems extreme.

well when developing a load it gets extremely old to re-zero your scope for every load your shooting that day. last time i went to the range i shot 4 different loads. it would have been a waste of time and waste of ammo to zero them and then shoot for groups. so instead you shoot for groups to see which load is more consistent. after that you zero that load and test it at at a further distance.

for me i test all of the loads at 200 (i don't waste my time with shooting at 100) and then move to 400 and then 600. the top two loads at 200 go to 400 and then the best one will be used at 600. everyone does it different though.

8 shots at 400 yards on a 8 inch plate.

So far this is the best group i have shot. I'm shooting a stock AAC-SD action so i am happy with it.

All I can say is that if I had shot those groups, it would be encouraging to me. I'd need to keep practicing, but I wouldn't be too sad at all. I have a couple groups that are about .75 MOA at 300 yds, and a couple 3 shot "groups" of about .3 MOA at 300yds, but still fighting for consistency in my results.

I agree with you, no matter that the results are not at the expected level... Consistecy is the key and I will keep practicing to gain some consistency.

Thanks

That's what I thought but it's turned into an "Hole in what MOA" thread. There are some good groups though.

22-250 5 rounds, 77gr Berger OTM WS2 coated, 35.5 gr of Big Game .005 off the lands. Fired through an 8 twist Bartlein. It won't do this every time, but will pretty consistently hold in the .2's to low .3's. After load development is done it will only occasionaly be shot for groups, and that is just to monitor barrel life. When I start missing I put up a couple groups to see if the load needs to be adjusted or if the barrel is starting to go south.

here's mine the gun= savage model 10 stagger feed - the early short action- E.R. Shaw barrel 1:8 twist no. 2 heavy varmint 26" 6.5 creedmoor-5 shots 100 yards

My version of a "dot drill". 13 consecutive 5 shot groups with my TRG-22 (.260 Rem).

This hole in hole stuff at 100 yards is what good bench rest shooters can do ALL DAY LONG......I can't, and could not imagine anything more boring......but that's why they have chocolate and vanilla.

Demo... What rig you shooting?? I've got a Gap Crusader in a 6.5 that is ridiculously accurate. I shoot the 140 Berger vlds over 42.4 h4350. LIGHTS OUT!
Savage LRP 6.5 Creedmoor. I finally worked the bugs out of the gun(stuck cases, jam'd rounds, wouldnt pick the rounds off the mag etc etc). it likes 130berger's by far the best. I can't seem to get 140's or 142's to do the deal for me yet. When I get the 130 VLD berger's in the mail, things should tighten up!

thats nice I would be verry happy with that too
Thanks! I called that good enough for my 120amax's and pressed out 100 of them on my rokchucker. Just waiting on the 130VLD Hunting Berger's to nail down those and load a few hundred. Groundhog destruction with those 130's I'm hoping. I'm already creeping up on 500 rounds through my stock savage barrel. I better slow down or I'm gonna be lookin to spin another one on by the end of next summer LOL!

One hole groups are nice. Custom rifles, wind flags, 2 oz trigger pulls, etc.

I like the 1/2 MOA to 1/4 MOA groups that are shot with NO wind flags, Factory Rifles, and 1-1/2 pound or more trigger pulls.

Not to take away from the point blank BR shooters, I just have more fun trying to do the best a rifle is capable in semi-stock (maybe a new trigger group) condition.

2 100yrd 3 Shot groups

I cant find any of my center fire groups I have shot quite a few in the .3's with my 22-250 don't know what happened to them though.
I love these threads its always nice to see people shooting better than me it gives me something to work towards.

One hole groups

Here's one from a bone stock Remington 5R Milspec in 308 last Wednesday. This load seems to be a consistent, great performer. It's funny though, this was my site in/warm up the barrel target. The groups I turned in with the official targets for my "Winter League" this week were good but, not like this! This combination has turned in a lot of targets under 1/4" this year several other loads are similar. Since I do not have a gun rest or rear bag, it was shot with homemade sandbags.

Winchester brass with 43gr Varget and 178Amax..

Spice it up diego as in nothing newer than 1945. LOL Then four out of five should be good for your epenis.

...:)...

I'd be more impressed with a tight group out past 300 then a 3 or 5 shot group that was all touching at 100 yards.
heres my 300 yard group
