My friend, Lee (RIP,) knew all the mom and pop places around here and preferred them, In fact, when in McKinney, (Texas) or close enough to it, we would eat a good lunch on Fridays at the Bill Smith Cafe, open for breakfast and lunch. Back around the turn of the century, It would cost about 6 something for a meat, 3 sides, endless rolls and ice tea. So, for about 7 dollars to include a tip, you could eat yourself into a stupor. We try to hit Mom and Pop places. Food is usually better and never see any DEI hires. Unfortunately, more difficult when just passing through.
around here, there are lots of greek family owned diners (they don't sell greek food). john's hamburgers or golden eagle are some examples. My friend, Lee (RIP,) knew all the mom and pop places around here and preferred them, In fact, when in McKinney, (Texas) or close enough to it, we would eat a good lunch on Fridays at the Bill Smith Cafe, open for breakfast and lunch. We would go back to work (electrical remodel on a school) and Lee would say, "I feel full and totally useless."
I would ask, "How do we tell the difference between now and before lunch?"
Can you feel the love in the room? We were good friends. His right hand was missing half of the index finger (an accident just like Tony Iommi from Black Sabbath.) On that hand, he could count the number of people he knew from work who could be invited to his house and family functions. I could be counted on that hand.
Double what he sez
What is so special about that place? Never been to one.
Maybe she missed the Budweiser episode....
Had Bill Smiths in Van Alstyne on Monday for breakfast. Corned beef hash, steak and eggs is the shit!My friend, Lee (RIP,) knew all the mom and pop places around here and preferred them, In fact, when in McKinney, (Texas) or close enough to it, we would eat a good lunch on Fridays at the Bill Smith Cafe, open for breakfast and lunch. I don't go there for the bland-ass food (dem wypipo ain't b see-sun they food).Have you eaten there in the last couple of years?
Everything tastes like it came from a box or a can.
It ain't home cookin...
Nothing! But it used to be a much better choice than going to burgerturd or McCrappy or kfc. What is so special about that place? Never been to one.
Yep. When the kids were growing up it was a place we could take them and have a decent, affordable meal. We rarely go now because the food is just not as good as it used to be. Still affordable, but mediocre at best.Cracker Barrel has been on the decline for twenty years. They went from making food with fresh ingredients to canned and boxed processed garbage to reduce costs. They were an iconic place with a unique atmosphere that had it's time. They put a woman in charge that doesn't understand what has caused the slow death of the company. Rebranding is not the answer. What made the company was the location and quality of food. In today's society that doesn't work. Located at an exit along the interstate for a quality family sit down meal/experience for a family traveling. It was a relaxing break. Sit on a rocking chair on the porch while the kids played a game of checkers or a peg board game. Now a family traveling will exit for gas, McDonald's type drive thru and hit the road again to get to their destination.
