I was starting to work up a hunting load for one of my .308s tonight, and was using Hornady 165gr SSTs. When I seated the bullet, I noticed that the cannelure was still around .030 from the case mouth. I only use neck tension anyway, but I just wondered if anyone else has observed this. The OAL would have been something in the 2.500 range had I seated the bullet to the cannelure. Anyone see any problem with the round being loaded this way? I have not run into this before.

Re: Hornady 165gr SST Question

I load for my AR-308 the same you mention. I load it to 2.80-2.81 and the cannelure is above the case mouth. The load development for 165 SST with XBR 8208. 4 of the 7 loads were under an inch at 100 yards. So it doesn't seem to matter.
Hope this makes sense...Thankgiving beer is GOOD!
