New to the forums, with about a year of reloading experience. Shooting a savage 110ba .338 Lm. Reloading a 250gr sierra hpbt with 82 grains of imr4350. The gun is 3 months old and the dealer threw in a box of hornady bullets, and a friend turned me on to 100 rounds of Lapua brass. My problem is with the reloaded Hornady brass, (they chamber fine) but I have to "slam" the bolt open with my palm to eject it, where as with the Lapua reloads its a very smooth close and open. Is the hornady brass that thin where its expanding way out or am i doing something wrong ??? Thanks for any help

Re: Hornady brass

Well, it could be the case volume with the Hornady brass is less which would give you higher pressures.

Some recent experience with Hornady brass, for a .300 Win Mag, only lasted 3 firings before some of the cases started spliting by the case head. I'm new to the belted magnum world, so this taught me a lesson about only pushing the shoulder back enough to chamber.

Re: Hornady brass

I think thats probly the best advise. Keep the hornady as backup, and stick with the Lapua, until I can get my hands on some Norma brass. Thanks
