Prayers indeed! These guys survived tours overseas to be taken out by a freight train here at home.

Makes you wonder how something like this happens.

I don't know but it looks like someone tried to "beat the train" with a parade float. Prayers for the survivors.

Well that sucks. These things are totally avoidable too. All to often people drive on to the tracks when there's an on coming train. It can take a freight train up to 1/2 a mile to stop. Please if you see the lights stop don't try and beat the train it's not worth it. When the gates are down don't go around them, it's not worth it and it's breaking the law.

townships can request slow order placed over crossings or in whole towns during parades or festivals. there is a chance the train crew forgot the slow order. might not have prevented them from hitting the truck but hitting it at 25 mph isnt nearly as bad as 60. would have given the parade float more time to back up or floor it. very sad indeed. these are the kinds of things i dread working on the railroad. about the only thing worse is hitting a loaded school bus.
