Alright guys and gals, I am still considering a new stick. The problem is, I am on a budget and I am seeking consistency with acceptable accuracy.
I am going to buy a Remington platform. I am not certain of which particular model, but all the usual suspects in .308:
    SPS Varmint
    SPS Tactical
    AAC SD
    700P
    5R
When you factor in the cost of the stock upgrade to the three SPS models, you are in the 700P and 5R bracket.
To help me make my decision, I would like to see some range reports for the listed firearms, preferably with factory ammo, but any info will help.
My ammunition choice will primarily be of the 168 grain variety, possibly 175 but probably no heavier.
Please, no "Buy a Savage" replies, I am not in the market for a Savage.
Also any ancedotal information that I should consider, for example: Actual or witnessed events of sling studs pulling out of stocks etc...

If you want range reports, you will be better off seeking them rather than getting people to repost them in your own thread.

Not to be a dick but may I suggest the sub forum titled: "Range Report and Exterior Ballistics"?

Here is the link to the Hide Google search: http://www.google.com/cse/home?cx=010955838166721108978:qcbx5qqy10o&hl=en

FWIW I would either buy the 5R and shoot it until the barrel dies or get the SPS and rebarrel it immediately if it doesn't shoot at least 1 moa.

So, you don't want my opinion?

My vote goes to the 5R, I have seen some VERY impressive feats of accuracy achieved with the 5R and a good driver.

Thanks for the link to the search engine, I actually already used it.

I have found some range reports for the SPS tactical, the 700P and one or two for the 5R, but I know there is more info out there.

I have not been able to find much of anything on the AAC SD model and I know that those are snapped up almost as soon as they hit the shelves.

You are correct, I probably should have posted in the range report section, but it seems that there is more traffic here.

Believe me, I have spent quite a bit of time trying to track down some data besides "it rock's" or the like.

Re: How about some range reports?

I just got an AAC-SD and have been fairly impressed with it. Shot my first 20 rounds with 168 gr gold medal match ammo and have put nothing but handloads through it since. Still in load development but Im betting the load I settle on is at or under 0.5" at 100 yards. I've shot several three shot groups in the low .3's and a few in the high .2's. It actually shot well with the factory stock, but I was careful not to put any pressure on the tip of the forend while I was shooting with that stock. I've since replaced it with an HS precision and the groups have tightened up over all. Only other thing I've done to the rifle so far is lighten the trigger from the factory setting down to about 2.5 pounds.

My only complaints so far have been the ring left on the primer after firing a lot of people are seeing with new remingtons and some sharp edges on the feed ramp scraping up my brass. After feeding a bunch of rounds through the mag, the scraping seems to have disappeared along with the sharp edges.

My plan is to slowly upgrade the rifle as I have the funds, but is more than serviceable out of the box.

Re: How about some range reports?

Thanks, this is the type of info I'm looking for.
I really like the 5R and it's reputation for accuracy.
However, the 20" threaded barrel of the AAC SD appeals to me. Not so only from a practical standpoint, but it just kind of calls out to me.
I think an AAC SD in the B&C M40 stock, possibly with vortex flash hider would make an excellent package.
