How close is too close for the bolt handle and scope?

I've got a scope that, with caps, comfortably clears the barrel - about 0.1" gap. The bolt handle barely clears the ocular bell - about 0.01 - 0.02".

Are there any downsides to running it that close? I suppose this will limit how fast I can work the bolt given the reduced space for my hand.

It will be fine for target shooting or shooting where speed is not a big deal. Hunting or tactical matches might cause issues.

You may want to look at getting a custom bolt knob installed to give you a little more clearence.

Is that why some guys have those aftermarket flattish looking bolt knobs - to get more clearance so they can mount the scope real low?

Running the bolt fast and hard will take the skin off your knuckles if it's too close to the scope, tactical bolt handle has it's benefits.
