Assemble the rifle fully. Put the stock in a cradle supporting the back and front.
Stick in indicator on the barrel. Clamp or magnetic base works best.
Put the stylus on the forend of the stock. Loosen the front guard screw. If you see movement beyond .001" something isn't right.
A super heavy barrel can give jaded feedback. I've had this happen and when it does I go shoot the rifle before tearing it back apart. Often there's no problem.
All the measurements in the world are nice to have. However the best feedback is paper in a variety of conditions.
