While shooting off a benchrest for small groups, do you hold your AR tight or loose, re; some benchrest shooters just touch the trigger when shooting, how do your gas guns like to be held, gentle or rough??

Re: How do you hold your AR while bench shooting?

I have never tried free-recoil with a gas gun. I can't imagine it's a good idea. Gas guns have multiple recoil impulses unlike bolt guns (firing, bolt impacting the back of the tube, bolt closing).

I shoot my AR just like I shoot my bolt gun. I take a firm hold and light forward loading.

I don't so much shoot for tiny groups unless I am diagnosing a problem. With the ARs I am usually shooting for speed and accuracy.

Sorry if this doesn't quite answer your question.

Firm. Not to tight not to loose. I shoot an AR better off of a bipod with rear bag. Follow through is much more critical for me shooting gas guns.

Hope this helps,
