I know the best one there is the lucas one, but I wanted to know if anyone has had experience with it.

what is the benefit of the lucas one anyways? I wrote him an email a month ago, he asked me for my zipcode then I couldn't get a hodl of him again anyways.

plus this seems to be a good deal for the price I get it at (14 bucks)

I mean all I need is so that I don't damage anything with the rod, I think this would do the job...

Re: How is this bore guide?

This article does a good job explaining the advantage of the Lucas bore guide http://www.6mmbr.com/catalog/item/1433308/954882.htm Any bore guide is better than none, but it's the insert at the back of the Lucas product that keeps the rod centered in the bore better than most other designs. Send him another email. He may be backlogged or your last email may have gotten lost in cyberspace.

Re: How is this bore guide?

Appears the same as the Sinclair o-ring guide...obviously, sinclair/brownells are affiliated.

Anyway, I use these and LOVE them. Way, way better than the cone-tipped ones with the locking screw that rotates down where your bolt handle does.

These stay put, keep gunk from the action and fit great. I haven't used a lucas, but I'm very happy with my sinclair ones.

Re: How is this bore guide?

I use possum hollow bore guides no issues, seem to fit very tightly, I have one for the Sako-TRG and another for a Rem small action. Only Complaints is that you need to put a small bead of oil on the o-ring, because if you don't it makes getting the bore guide out really hard. I also have a Lucas ar-15 bore guide and I like it very much but I couldn't see me buying one for every rifle. The possum hollow guides seem to work as well as the Lucas. All my cleaning rods have some sort of built in sliding guide and I just use that in combination with the possum hollow. However the Lucas guides are top tier bore guides, and I wouldn't hesitate buying another if I had a bench gun.

Also note use midways chart for ordering info, most people buy based on caliber not by rifle type. Need to do both as possum hollow makes them for every action:

Re: How is this bore guide?

Lucas isn't backlogged. I ordered 2 of them around the end of september and got them in Oct 4th. great products! Wish I would of gotten them sooner.

Re: How is this bore guide?

The Sinclair/Brownells guide won't damage the bore itself, but it won't keep the cleaning rod centered as well as the Lucas design. Bore guides have two purposes, one is to keep the rod centered, the other is to keep solvent out of the action. The chamber end of any bore guide will be larger than the rod in order for it to accommodate brushes and jags with patches, but it's the Lucas design with that rear insert that does a better job of keeping the rod centered that the other bore guides that don't have that feature. If you can't get hold of Lucas for some reason, then get the Sinclair guide in the meantime.

Re: How is this bore guide?

I always find Mike Lucas easy to get a hold of. I would say wait for the Lucas it's the best out there period. Don't skimp when it comes to an expensive barrel.

that bore guide won't damage your barrel, YOU may though.. from improperly ramming a cleaning rod through and not paying attention when the jag exits.

the lucas insert helps keep the flexing of the cleaning rod to a minimum when pressure is applied behind the rod.

Re: How is this bore guide?

interesting...

I guess i'll do the usual buy once cry once thing. I'm gonna send him an email again then, i'll call if he doesn't reply this time

Re: How is this bore guide?

I have several of those, and they work just fine. However,my next one will be a Lucas! As others have said, any is better than none, and some are better than others. Pete
