well if the law is well known, as it is in TX.....arent the criminals consenting to the possibility that they may get shot if they break into a house?.....i mean they know the risk....
breaking into someones home isnt something you accidentally do.....it is a deliberate decision.....so the criminal is actively making the choice to risk their life to steal your stuff.....they are choosing the possibility of that death sentence.....its not being unduly forced upon them.
what benefit is there to removing that consequence for them?....other than you are a communist and dont believe in the prospect of private property.....

There's logic in the law in Minnesota, for example, where you must hide and only fire a weapon if you're backed into a corner, basically. If you're hiding in a room and the thief never comes in, you're effectively supposed to let them take everything (and call the police). It's insane. If you are in my home uninvited, you are indeed threatening my life even if your only goal is to take my TV and jewelry. Why? Because you were not invited and I don't know what your intentions are. I have no way of knowing. And my job is to eliminate a threat to self and others. Never mind my TV.

The duty to retreat is not there when you are in your home. We don't have a true castle doctrine so you will have to answer for your deadly force actions, but most of the time when people do defend themselves they are ok. But felony is part of the qualification so if you are being robbed but not in danger, it ain't worth going rambo especially if they are just grabbing a few things and running.

If I’m not mistaken it’s illegal to use a gun in England to defend yourself in your home with a gun even if they are in the process of killing you, and self defense isn’t a legal reason to even purchase a gun in Australia.
