how much effort to neck size?

Just got my lee breech block single stage kit. Adjusted as per instructions, and went to neck size. Seems to take very little effort to "resize". The only evidence im getting is 3 verticle lines in the lube on the neck.


Is something wrong or is this alright? Its once fired hornady TAP .308 if that makes a difference, nickle plated stuff. It does chamber fine in my 700.

See what an fired round vs a sized round measures.

If your only bringing the neck diameter down a few thousandsths.
it wouldn't take much effort.

Example a fired round of Lapua brass from my gun measures .294
My resized rounds measure .293 This is a custom chamber though your mileage will varry.

You don't need to lube the case neck with neck-sizing dies.
It takes some pressure on the press lever (as per instructions) to correctly size the neck.
I also found that Lee instructions for Collet dies are wrong. Instructions says that you have to screw the die "until it touches the shell holder" and then some more, but it should be "until you bottom the die on the shell holder" and then some more.
If you use Lee's method, you get very light and inconsistent neck tension.

I used the lee directions (crap! I already processed my first 40 cases!)

My fired rounds are around .345 and the sized onces are hovering around .335+- .001 therfore I suppose somethings going right.

Next time I will follow your instructions next batch, hotice!
