Going to get a scope for my 700p but can't decide on power. I put a 4-16x50 temporary and its OK but would i need more if I want to goo 1000 yards. I glanced out the window with it and saw a bill board about a mile away but the cross hairs were thick and it covered most of the bill board. Would a ffp also cover the target if it is that far. Or should I just get a sfp scope and would over 20 power be to much

On the highest power the reticle would look just as thick on a FFP. The 20x-25x is a good top end for that range. However, a quality 4-16x will get you out to 1000. At that distance your going to need a spotting scope more then anything. Unless you're ranging targets, stick with the SFP.

All depends on what you're using the scope for (tactical, target, hunting, etc).

I personally prefer higher power scopes on all my rifles, with the exception of pure hunting rifles that I'm saving weight on.

Other than those, everything has at least 20x on the high side.

Agree with at least 20X. FFP or SFP, your choice depending on use. You can always reduce power to reduce mirage and increase FOV if necessary. Higher powers gives more options to check details of targets at distance. Start with something inexpensive at whatever mag you want and you'll eventually know what you need.
