I am new to long range shooting and although I understand the concept of holdover I having a difficult time finding data/instruction on how to determine it for my rifle/bullet combination. I am shooting 308 Federal Match with a muzzle velocity of 2710 ft/second. I know my drop in MOA and mils out to 1000yds, how do I take that information and determine my holdover?

Thanks for your assistance.

Re: How to determine holdover

if MOA is known...as in proven by shooting at all ranges........(ballistic programs are only a guide...bullets,barrels,temp,elevation all affect)...
holdover using reticle of your choice.

Re: How to determine holdover

Here is how it is derived:

1 MOA at 100 yards is 1.047"
1 Mil at 100 yards is 3.6"
3.6 divided by 1.047 is 3.438

MOA to Mils: Divide by 3.438
Mils to MOA: Multiply by 3.438

Because that's always true regardless of conditions, write it down in your logbook.
