Push the rod in until you can witness one full turn on the mark that you put near the handle. Stop, mark the rod again at the same reference point on the reciever. Withdraw the rod, and using a ruler or a tape, measure the distance between the two marks that you referenced off of the reciever.
That's your twist, exactly....... </div></div>

You may want to search how to check it yourself (something like pushing a rod through and counting the revolutions). That's what I'd do if it really matters to you, since even if they publish 10 or 12, it may be 1/2 off either way!

Thanks for the tips guys, not sure I've ever cleaned any of my rifles quite that deliberately before.
Quick question, since both of you kind of alluded to a "if it really matters" scenario......
Does it really matter what the twist rate is if I plan to hand load? I thought from doing some reading in the ballistics section that it would be helpful to know before going out and buying a few of everything for load development. Would "try everything" be a better method than trying to "home in on a sweet spot" right off the bat?
FYI this will be my first run at reloading and I don't even have the gear yet but I've got a couple of fellas who have offered to let me use their gear, show me "how it's done" and help me develop some loads for my new rifle.
I figure I'll start collecting the gear to reload probably part by part on the various firearms classifieds I visit, maybe I'll get lucky @ an auction or something, it's not something I'm fast tracking financially.
