I have an special object that I want to encase in a clear acrylic or epoxy like substance… typical clear plaque type with an object encased in it.

Does anyone have any good DIY products to do this, goal is zero (or minimal) air bubbles, smooth surface, clear, etc… You think just clear epoxy would be suffice?

I only have 1 chance at this as the object won’t be recoverable if I mess it up.

i just went to the local hobby lobby and they said "casting resin" is what i was talking about, but they are out of stock at the moment. from what she said its what i need to use so i will build a form and try it out on a sample piece first. its real cheap.

I would weigh how special the object is against how pissed you will be if you screw up. May be worth the extra money to have it professionally done. What's an extra $20 compared to potentially destroying something of great significance to you.

agree which is why i will try it out on a sample piece first. The resin is really cheap and i'd much rather DIY it than have it done. it's less of a money issue and more of being a DIY person.

I get what you are wanting to do; kind of like how you see rare insects in the shops of the some cheezy wildlife conservatories embedded in some acrylicl; when I was in Brazil I got a pirahna acryled.

But, just an FYI, have you looked into Shadowboxes? Michaels (the arts & staff store), usually has a good selection and almost every week you can find a 40% off coupon by registering on their website...
