How to prevent cheek from sliding on stock?

I spent several hours at the range (had a great time) and it was about 100F outside and the humidity was up there. I was sweating like a pig and noticed my cheek was sliding all over the stock b/c of the sweat.

What are you guys doing to prevent this ? Is there some type of sporting tape for baseball or tennis that is *cheap* and might help ?

On my 1911s that don't have any stippling on the frames, I just use some heavy duty sanding paper. This works great, but obviously wouldn't be ideal for my face.

put some Mole Skin on the cheek piece and you'll stop the sliding around. You can get it at WalMart in the pharmacy section in the foot care area.

I use a Tac Ops Stock Pack/Cheek Pad on my Tac Ops X-Ray 51. Not only does it not burn your face after sitting in 110F heat, but the suedelike lining feels cooler in Summer and warmer in Winter than the bare buttstock. An added bonus is the eight (8) rounds you can carry in the loops on the outside and the storage inside of the Pack.

Tac Ops Stock Packs are available in RH and LH in OD Green, MultiCam, Black, and occasionally Coyote Brown. You can also get them with extra long straps, which I highly recommend for use with "tactical" stocks that have buttstocks with "tall" rear sections such as the McMillan A4, A5, and A3-5 and the Manners T1, T4, and T5 Series.

Some things I have noticed along the way-

The atomospherics that cause a face to slime around on the stock can make putting your face on a black stock cover a bit uncomfortable.

Shoot often enough in the high heat with a stock pad/cover/wrap and you will want a way to wash it, detachable seems preferable in my mind.

Temporary adhesion often trumps a more permanent solution. I like spray tacky craft glues, about the time the glue starts to let go the stink factor has the range babes walking swiftly away.

Best of luck

If the comb height is correct, adding a stock pack (from any supplier) will not work. As Tony said, try some mole skin from the drug store.

Ive been using it on my A-3 for about 8 years.

McMillan makes some 1/8 inch thick neoprene type stuff. You can call em and buy a 12x12 square.

One of my Eagle stoch packs must be breaking down or something because its leaving black residue on my face. Might have to replace that one.

Skate board tape? Holy crap, that stuff will tear up yer face. Way more man than me.

I use what is commonly called vet-wrap. It is that stretchy wrap around stuff they use to hold bandages on animals or wrap their ankles, etc. I got mine in black at Tractor Supply.

It forms to shapes and stretches, absorbs sweat, is easily removable and doesn't reatin heat. Plus, it is really cheap. I have had some on my FAL for upwards of a year of shooting. Took 5 minutes the other day and put a new wrap on it.

If you like skateboard tape, try 80 grit sandpaper. A lot more grip.

Mouse pad, stock pack, both combined, Camo form tape, moleskin, etc all are good options. I'm sure you could even get a chamois and cut a strip off to glue or tape on. Try some stuff out. My girlfriend has sensitive skin and sometimes if she's sweating, certain materials will really irritate her skin. What works for some might not for you.

I'm pretty sure I'd be allergic to skateboard tape. hah

Since I don't want to waste any more time on you than it takes to post here and you don't want to take it to PMs' (I really don't want to hear from you there either) - I'll say it here: I don't know what your problems are and don't care. Grow-up, get over yourself, and get a life so you can stop being such a Hater.

I answered the OP's question with a straight answer and photos. YOU came into the thread and posted a useless comment without value - AGAIN. Way to go, dude. I'm sure your parents are very proud of you.

"jealousy, the green-eyed monster that mocks the meat it feeds on"

yeah, sure it's pity, as in how unfortunate Aries64 must be to have a rifle like that and his willingness to put out helpful suggestions and advice that he follows himself...

Get used to seeing pics of TacOps, once I get mine, it'll be a veritable pic-storm...

"They see me rollin... they be hatin..."

PS - Aries64 - c'mon man, poh-lees that lawn!!

Thanks Tony. This worked like a charm. I had other guys at my class today ask me about it. I think this helped a bunch of guys.

Never tried these but they look interesting. I might try something like that on the stock itself so it's not so slippery when I'm pouring sweat.
