UPDATE: First and foremost, I will say the rifle shoots well. We were just using some Federal Premium hunting loads and it was holding 0.75 MOA out to 500yds.

At 600 and 800yds it was a bit over 1 MOA. That is with Mike shooting and until today he had a total of 3 shots at 400 yds with my rifle.

Apparently there was some miscommunication/misunderstanding of terms with the seller. I asked that it be bedded as part of the deal and I understood him to say he would have it "skim bedded".........I ASSUMED that would be tang, sides, and lug......his definition is different.

However, that to me does not excuse the poor quality/look. The seller told me it did not look up to their usual par but it is the only example of work I will ever see from ------------removed as seller offered to make it right.

We are done with the deal as soon as we get the missing parts. Not gona lose any sleep over it and if it needs to be re-bedded, it will go to GAP or William Roscoe.

The seller did offer a full and complete refund if we are not happy with the gun. That is a stand-up offer.

This is the bedding job done by a professional gunsmith that is associated with custom barrels.

Is this what you would expect?

How would you rate it on a scale of 1 to 10?

Re: How would you rate this bedding job?

The bedding job was part of the agreement in a trade.....so I am not sure if you consider it free or not.

The company is gaining a name in the benchrest arena and their barrels are becoming more popular.

+1!!!

Re: How would you rate this bedding job?

Agreed, I'd be pissed. Hell, who knows it MAY shoot, but it sure as shit isn't pretty and actually looks pretty porus like it was mixed wrong. I would NOT have them re bed it. I would want my money back or having some way of offsetting the cost of having someone that took pride in their work redo it.

Re: How would you rate this bedding job?

I don't know the first thing about how to bed a rifle but I know enough that that would piss me off big time if it was mine!

Trade or not it's still payment for services rendered and there for should equal the cash equivalent and that isn't worth a single penny!

Re: How would you rate this bedding job?

Better than my Advanced tactical came with but worse than I could do myself and WAY worse than my smith does. He is out in Stephenville and could do you right.. If you paid for that or have trade value in it I would get a refund since that is either A the best they could do or B they just dont give a damn...

There is also the option of shipping it out. GAP, Roscoe, McMillan etc... But for local stuff you know it got there when you drop it off and you know it will get home when you pick it up. Who knows what the hell will happen in the mail. I have examples by GAP and McMillan both are top notch.

At best, he bedded the recoil lug and the pad behind. He didn't even try to bed the tang area.
Honestly, it may shoot. Snugging the lug can do alot for a rifle.

But, it's only a partial bedding, and poorly done at that. It may shoot well for a while, then become inconsistent as the action moves in the unbedded areas. It may have changed nothing.

I would rate it zero for poorly done and incomplete!

Re: How would you rate this bedding job?......UPDATE

This was a miscommunication between 5redman8 and i. I sold him the rifle and told him I would bed the recoil lug for him at his request, if he wanted a full custom bedding job that was never my intention especially since it needed to be done in 4 days. So a friend of benchmark who will not be named did me the favor and bedded the lug. It was to be bedded for function not fashion.

This was my fault (diggler44) and had nothing to do with BENCHMARK BARRELS the only thing they did for me was install the barrel and ship it to 5Redman8

I offered a full refund to the buyer inlcluding all fees acquired with the transaction

AGAIN

I have had nothing but fantastic experiences with benchmark barrels and their tubes straight up drive tacks

Diggler,
That is some stand up stuff you did there....this world needs more like you that will own up to mistakes....i retract my comment previously in this post

Re: How would you rate this bedding job?......UPDATE

i will always back anything i sell its the only fair thing to do. it amazing to me when people won't. I am here for the long haul, I love the hide and the people in it.

funny part about this whole deal is the rifle is a down right shooter. .75moa with a rookie shooter out to 500yds with hunting ammo that is crazy good. think of what this little savage can do with some quality handloads with target bullets.

Time for you to get out the air grinder & cabide bit, do it yourself.

No pride was taken in that job.

Re: How would you rate this bedding job?

diggler KUDOS to you for having enough moral fiber to standup and do the right thing. a big problem in society today is a lack of this type of internal compass. there does seem to be alot of us that act similarly here on the HIDE(doing the right thing).

Here is a better one and this one was bedded by a Quote "Master Gunsmith". Its even worse than it looks as the action sat in tention with the front being way higher then the rear.

Manners has it displayed in his office as a memory to a jackoff gunsmith that tried to fuck him.

Re: How would you rate this bedding job?......UPDATE

I wonder who certifies somebody as a "Master Gunsmith"??? Is there some governing body out there that "certifies" people as being a master in this field or is it something that is self proclaimed????

I think its funny every time I see this somewhere!

That brings up the next the question, who Certifies the Certifier?

I've ask that question over the years to different folks that tell me their Certified in XYZ, but all I get is the look.

Mike, if you would like me to certify you as a Master Gunsmith I can do this. All I will need from you is one of your nicest .30 cal rifles with all the bells and whistles sent to me for a rather lengthy examination period. Three to five years is usually the norm but no worries, I'll get your certificate out as soon as the rifle arrives....

I also sell bridges if anyone is interested..

And who is Mike?

I think that he misquoted the person......Skunkworks is Mike Bush, i believe he was answering Mike's post and accidentally hit the quote button on Mark's post.
