Howa Magazine Problem
I have a PTG DBM that I installed on my Howa 1500 SA and when I try to insert the AICS magazine it won’t insert all the way. There is a small piece of metal sticking out of the action that is preventing the back of the magazine from going all the way in. Has anybody else had this problem with using a DBM in a Howa 1500? Is it OK to remove this piece of metal?

I use my vertical mill to machine the protrusion back for magazine clearance. But if you just machine it away, you'll find that any upward pressure on the bottom of the magazine will push the mag's feed lips up into contact with the bolt. Best to machine a little shelf on that protrusion to catch the back edge of the magazine & prevent it from being forced up into contact with the bolt, while still letting it go far enough up to latch.

As Dennis said - you have to machine it off. I took it completely off on both of mine, and they run great. Did have an issue with my straight fluted bolt though, due to the mag lips catching with upward pressure. Put a couple of pads in the flutes and it's good to go.

If you decide to machine mag stop shelf, you'll have to go slow and test fit a lot, there will be a very small margin between it being big enough to stop the mags upward movement without impeding round pickup etc. that's just from what I remember anyway.

I wonder if this is a short action only issue because I have a CDI dbm on my .300 wm and all I had to do was inlet the bottom metal slightly below flush and adjust the feed lips on the magazine. This is seems to be a common "problem" with the short actions.
