Got a quick question...that may be stupid....

I am looking at a BELL AND CARLSON stock for a Howa 1500 .308... with bull barell...

My question:

Some of the stocks from Midway USA...etc.. say that they are for a Howa 1500/ Weatherby...

They state that they have the FULLY adjustable A4 for the Weatherby... but NO mentioning for the Howa...

Are the ACTIONS of the HOWA and WEATHERBY the same... other than the 3 and 2 position safeties respectfully....???

I would really like the A4 Adjustable Bell and Carlson...but if its a no go on the fit...then a Varmint Tactical is my only real option....

All help will be great..

Thanks

Re: Howa Stock?

I cant find a A4 stock from bell and carlson. I checked all 4 pages and filtered trying to find it

The a5 is the adjustable one. It's not mentioned that its inletted for weatherby or howa on bell and carlsons site either.

Midway link, or shens

Re: Howa Stock?

Right, the Weatherby Vanguard is the same action as the Howa, although depending on the year made there is a small difference in the trigger guard contour. Same with the S&W 1500 and 1600 rifles.
P.S. The terms A1-3, A-2, A-3, Adj. A3-5, A-4 and A5 are all registered trademarks of the McMillan Fiberglass Stock company.
Our legal beagles will be speaking with B&C about this.

Re: Howa Stock?

Mr. Davis,

Its odd.... the Bell and Carlson sight does NOT show it saying a A5.... but when you do a search... it brings you to dealers that sell them and they DO mention it as a A5...

It was kind of confusing... because I thought in the beginning it was a possible McMillan A5 already fitted out for the Howa or Weatherby... but then quickly learned it was B/C....

Seems that some of their dealers are MIS-Naming them.... for the possible internet searches hoping to key in on the adjustable stocks...

Sorry to cause a problem... I was just trying to figure out the action differences.

By the way.. Your the one that gave me info for on a McMillan Stock for my Mauser 98 Large Ring.... AND.. I WILL be in touch about that one VERY soon.

Is that action the SAME as the HOWA or... is it different...?

Matt.</div></div> I am pretty sure they are different. Its been several months since i did the research but the best bell and carlson stock i could find for the howa 1500 was the a-2 model

Re: Howa Stock?

Guess... I will give them a call...

I believe Davis... so... we will see if they know their products

Re: Howa Stock?

Actually Weatherby has three different actions on their rifles.
There is the standard Mk V which is their big round action and has nine locking lugs(three rows of three) on the bolt. Then there is the Mk V liteweight which is a smaller round action and has 6 locking lugs (three rows of 2) on the bolt, and then there is the Vanguard which is the Howa 1500 action with a slightly different Weatherby floorplate.
All three are totally different actions and have their own inletting specs for stocks. They are not interchangeable.

Re: Howa Stock?

Just as an aside, the Mk V lightweight is a very cute little action that is only 1.15" in diameter. It's a lengthened version of their old Varmintmaster action and is a nice action for building light weight carry-around rifles in standard calibers.
My little Cous deer rifle is a .250-3000 build on a older varmintmaster action that I got cheap because it had a bent barrel and a broken stock (thanks to an ATV incident) and it is one of the cutest little rifles in my whole collection. About 6 lbs all up with a Redfield 6x scope. I built it about 30 years ago and no it's still not for sale.

I have seen a few of the Weatherby's... they seem very well built...

Thats kind of the deal I got on the Howa 1500 in .308.... It was just WAY too good of a deal to pass up... so thats the reason I am humting around for a stock...

I am making it into the "WIFE" gun...due to her wanting to get into shooting long range... but want to also keep the price down as much as possible while still having a accurate rifle...
