Hpbt vs otm

OTM = Open Tip Match
HPBT = Hollow Point Boat Tail

Exactly the same thing, just OTM is used by the US military so their lawyers are happy. The US adheres to the Hague Conventions of 1899 and 1907, specifically IV, 3: The Avalon Project : Laws of War - Declaration on the Use of Bullets Which Expand or Flatten Easily in the Human Body; July 29, 1899

A "Hollow Point" bullet would be illegal under that legal definition, so instead of calling it HPBT, they say OTM, and, suddenly, the bullet is legal under these rules of warfare.

For your purposes, either a OTM or HPBT will do the exact same thing!

I knew that the military could not use "hollow point" bullets. but I never knew about the rename to "open tip match". Learn something new everyday..............

"Hollow point" was original for rapid expansion. Match bullets mad eon jackets with a closed rear will also have a open tip / hollow point, but because of the thicker jacket will not act like the bullets from the original definition. There is a lot of confusion on this matter, also in ouw laws that civilian may not have expanding ammunition, but the match HPBTs are not the same thing. Hence the change to the OTM designation, although I don;t see why they did not call it OTBT, as the boat tail is no longer designater.
