Rifle Scopes I don't know how tall and what type of rings for flattop AR

I have my first AR on its way to me. Flattop, DPMS 300 AAC BlackOut.

The scope I'm mounting is a 1.25-4X24 with a 30mm tube. (PFI) It has a 3.5" eye relief. I mention eye relieve because I don't know whether to get rings that sit right on the picatinny rail or do I need a separate base with the rings offset toward the rear???

On my bolt guns, I have always mounted the scopes as low as possible but I am told that on the ARs, an optimum height is about 1.5" (this is where it gets murky for me) but I'm not sure whether that is above center bore or simply above the rail. This is where I need some advise and counsel. What should I be looking for?

Secondly, there are way too many bases and rings all of which seem great for me to choose from.

This will be a permanent fixture on my rifle so I don't "need" QD, but I'm not against them either.

Looking for suggestions as to which type and brand of setup I should be looking for.

Thanks for any insight you might have.

I have a couple AR's and just went through this process after adding a 20" heavy barrel, get a QD mount, you will want BUIS to fit under it, I started with rings then moved onto the bolt on mount, waiting for a Burris lever QD mount right now in the mail. I also have a canted TRS 25, prob dont need it but this is one of my SHtF guns.

Some people when they shoot put their nose right on top of the charging handle. You might find this is a comfortable way to shoot. If that is the case you will need a base that extends forward from your upper rail to allow enough eye relief. Is your new rifle coming with a fixed stock or collapsible?

Can someone explain the BUIS? Is this what is commonly referred to as a "spacer"?

Thanks,

Back up iron sights (BUIS), sorry, I am using magpul on my DPMS 308 AP4, on my RRA tac driver I am using a magpul rear and metal YHM gas block front flip with bayonet lug. If you look close at the mounting pictures you will see what I mean by a QD mount, you can also see what others said about the cheekweld, I put my nose right on the charging handle.

Most AR guys will suggest if you can spend up to $200, get a larue, bobro, American defends, or Gg&g quick detach mount. These, among a few others are considered the best quality and most repeatable. If you are looking for cheap, don't worry about a QD. Most people go with a Burris Pepr, primary arms, swfa ssalt, or other sub $75 mount. I'd for sure get a cantilever mount like these as to get the right eye relief. I think the cheapest ok quality mount I have seen/heard of is the primary arms at about $25.

Badger 22moa base and .95-1.00 rings usually are perfect for me on AR's.
NF Unimount at 1.5 is a great setup too.

I leave QD stuff to folks that actually need them (professionals deploying mission-dependent optics) and Internet commandos.

Im in the same boat. But I decided to keep it simple. I was looking for a 1 piece mount. I started looking at offset mounts, QD mounts, and was (F-this)... Im just getting some Low rings and move them if I ever need to. Im going with Surefire offset Irons.

I agree, if you have no need to quickly remove a scope, save the $100+ and put it towards better glass or more ammo. As long as what ever mount system give you the proper eye relief... And for most scopes of 3-9 or even 2-7 need a cantilever mount to be comfortable, IMHO.

The only logical argument that I have heard on that point is that my brother, who has lots of ARs with optics prefers the quick detach only because he says it's easier to clean the uppers if he can take the optics off and put them back on quickly. Never have owned an AR before, I have to defer to others too advise if that is something to consider.
