Ok,

I have been waiting for a shot at being a flight paramedic for 5 years now since I got in EMS. I have been talking to a base director for 3 months now. I got a phone call Monday night, from the base director, around 7PM informing me that he was gonna send me an e-mail with the particulars for an interview next monday. I had already took the week off next week for vacation, and was not gonna be gone next Monday anyway. Coincidence or not, I was ecstatic to say the least. Yall please pray for me, cause the interviews can be pretty rough. Either way, I am tickled to at least interview, cause my odds have gone from 1 out 200+, now to 1 out of 10. If yall have any tips for me, especially from any flight medics/flight nurses that lurk on this site, I would greatly appreciate it. I will keep yall posted on what happens. I went and bought me another suit Monday night ( old one dont fit too well anymore... had it since freshman year of college).
Thanks in advance,

Matt

Good luck!

I was a pilot for a small air Medivac company for a while and had a blast.

I always told people that once you get the interview the job is yours to lose.

Personality played a big role in final selection. Trying to decide if you can live/work next to this guy for 3 or 4 or more sometimes very long hard days.

Re: I got a Flight Paramedic Interview!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats on the interview. You say you have been waiting for a chance for 5 years so it's probably safe to say that you have been a Medic at least that long. You already know how to keep your head in a stressful situation if you've made it this long. Be yourself, stay calm, answer the questions they ask but be sure you think about your answer before you spit it out. I conduct quite a few interviews for my FD and I'm not big on seeing guys is a suit. I expect a person to be dressed nicely and guys to be in a shirt and tie but not a suit. That's just me and I can't speak for everyone. I do look at physical appearance and dress. A candidate should be clean shaven, short professional looking haircut, well dressed, and I don't want to smell his cologne from 5 feet away.

Getting the interview is half the battle so you are well on your way.

Have you take aviation physiology? I know that when I went to work for the air ambulance company here it was required before employment.

Good luck!!
