I have finally decided which one.

After hours of research and pricing components, I have decided to go with a CMMG M4-LEP II. I have tried every combo I could to do it cheaper but I can't figure out how to do it. $999 for a gas piston driven upper in the configuration I am looking for. Unless someone can point me to an M4 upper with a gas block for under $600, I think this is my only option.
I really want to put a Spikes Tactical LPK in it though because of how smooth the selector is. I have read nothing but good things about them.
If anyone has anything to add, I am all ears.

All M4 uppers have gas blocks. Do you mean a RAILED gas block?

He means gas piston

Well I was bent on gas piston at first for my LR-308 build. I gave up on that idea and just went DI. Probably because I wanted to use Adams Arms for a gas piston job but alas, Adams Arms doesn't offer one for a LR-308 or AR-10 type. I wanted to build my own from every little part so I wasn't going to buy something like POF upper or whatever, besides POF wants 1900 for their Gas Piston .308 upper.
I expect to be extremely happy with my DI LR-308 build when I'm done and a shootin'. My advise, forget the Gas Piston and go DI and then get the optics you want for your M4.

If I take NoFail's advice about a DI upper, I was thinking about the Stag Arms Model 3H. Any input on that upper?

Well hell there you go 600 for the Adams Arms gas piston upper that seems reasonable to me. I didn't know they had it for 600 because I wasn't in the 5.56 market. That could be a good option for you, but I would change that hand guard but that's just me.

Stag stuff is OK, but I'd probably go Adams Arms or CMMG instead.
