My question is this, I have been shooting for about fifteen years both in and out of the Army and then Navy. I also shoot at my local ranges several times per month or more. I have become increasingly more interested in longer range shooting for fun (200-750 Meters+) I have several rifles but, the only one I used to shoot long range with was my Rem 700 AAC-SD in .308 Win. I just have the rifle to my brother because I was not in the mood to modify it and, he needed a rifle. The question I have is this, what .308 rifle can I buy under 2k that will be an upgrade from the 700 AAC-SD? I really did not like the sloppy, mushy stock that would touch the barrel easily if I used a bipod. I saw the Rem 700 tactical 5r with the 20" barrell. Is this a decent shooter or, a worthless upcharge? I have the new Nightforce 5-25x56 ATACR that I am keeping to put on my next rifle. I apologize if this topic is already beaten to death but, I just have read so much conflicting info that I really need some help deciding.
