I like Midway and all but...

Re: I like Midway and all but...

Just about everywhere with "reasonable" prices is out right now. The lowest I have seen it...COUGH...is at Cabelas where is was $119/100. At Midway, you can use a $10 off $100 order code and get it a little cheaper ($122/100).

Either way about it...unless you HAVE TO HAVE IT NOW...you are probably better waiting until Graffs, Sinclair Intl, Third Gen Shooting Supply or one of the other "usual suspects" has it back in stock for a better price.

Re: I like Midway and all but...

Midway's shipping has gotten ridiculous also. I was going to order some Berger bullets and some other small items totaled about $70.00. Shipping was $17.00. I used the $10 off, but $17 for shipping a small box is a lot.

Re: I like Midway and all but...

Midway has been ridiculous for the last several years. Always high compared to competition, it isn’t until they have things on sale or use a promo code that they get close to matching what many other online stores sell at every day, (exceptions maybe Cabelas & Sinclair who have always been high). They are living off their customer base they built in the 80's and 90's. Who are not shopping around apparently!?!

Remember the days of great to equal pricing and FREE shipping...

Re: I like Midway and all but...

I remember when Midway would have the same item listed for two different prices in their catalog (maybe they still do, don't pay much attention nowadays). Natchez has decent product prices on a lot of things, but kinda screws you on the shipping as well. I haven't bought from midway in a long time, and it will probably stay that way. I used to be a regular customer with them .

Re: I like Midway and all but...

Last time I bought from Midway was a Hornady LNL OAL gauge and a 6.5-284 modified case. I think price for the two items was around $28 total, but shipping was $14 and some change... Made a $28 order $43...

Re: I like Midway and all but...

I have had just the opposite experience with them. I bout 500 175smk a couple days ago, they were a little more expensive than anyone else, but after shipping, they came out $20 CHEAPER! Everyone else wanted $24-25 for shipping, midway was $13.

I'm finding that certain items really drive up Midway's shipping. I placed an order that had one of their shooting mats on it (on sale $49.99) and the shipping was going to be $24 on a $125 order. I deleted the mat from the order and shipping dropped to about $11.

I also miss the days when they had free shipping.

Re: I like Midway and all but...

Midway has to pay for all the advertisement that Mr. Potterfield does on all the hunting and gun related tv shows somehow. Don't expect their prices to get back in line anytime soon.

It is a rare company indeed that charges actual shipping costs anymore. It's just too easy for them to make an extra few bucks. The big boys like Cabela's and BPS have been gouging on shipping for years. What is sad is that the little guys are following suit now. I got screwed with a $14 shipping charge a couple weeks ago on a little rear bag.

Just like gas or anything else. Until we as consumers stop allowing the rip it will only get worse.

I'm off my soap box now.

Re: I like Midway and all but...

I bought 2 bushings. Size of like a penny...

Had to pay 11 bucks.

But then I bought ALL my reloading equipment. Big box.... Bullets, press, brass etc etc. Was 34 bucks. Lol

It's nice because they have everything. And you can do one place shopping.

They actually have decent deals. I bought a kestrel 2000 for like 80 bucks. Everywhere else, it was more. Used. 10 dollar discount too. Make it 70 dollars.

Re: I like Midway and all but...

My biggest gripe is to have to pay shipping on back ordered items. I pay shipping on the items in stock and then have to pay shipping again when the back ordered items ship......

Re: I like Midway and all but...

I ordered a $3.29 bolt stop release for a trigger from Midway not too long ago, the shipping was about $6 if I recall.....For christ sakes, put the damn thing in an envelope with a .44 cent stamp on it, and mail the son of a bitch.

Won't order from them again, unless I absolutely have too....

Re: I like Midway and all but...

Paying shipping for anything sucks, Midway's prices are good, but unless you use a promo code and order in large quantities they get you.

It comes down to the all mighty dollar.

Re: I like Midway and all but...

I still order stuff from them, albeit small parts that in turn cost me only $2-$3- or $4 in shipping.

Remember when you'd get the 20% or 30% at Midway for your birthday?

Re: I like Midway and all but...

You guys are not wrong that Cabela's prices are high, but keep in mind that UNLIKE natchez, etc. they frequently run promotional deals for either money off or free/reduced shipping. I just bought a 500rd pack of Federal (AE) 5.56 and got it shipped for $5. You just have to watch out for the promos. I can't say that i've ever seen Midway do free shipping, but maybe I just missed it. At least they still give us the HIDE coupon codes.

ALSO, unlike the other places, Cabela's will foot the bill for shipping on returns (except loaded ammo, powder, primers). IMHO, it's worth it for some things. I've bought many of my boots, etc. from them over the years and will keep on doing so.

Midway has always been fair to me on gun parts, scopes, etc.-- I don't buy much else there so I guess i've not noticed the shipping gouge. I will say that natchez recently railed me on an exchange, so after i've paid shipping 3 times now on this shit I'm done doing business with those folks.

Re: I like Midway and all but...

After getting my C&R FFL I got a dealer account at midway. Looking at prices, most things are the same price with my dealer account that they were before I had the dealer account. Of course, now that I have a dealer account I can't use the monthly discount codes. I should ask them to remove my dealer account status and just give me back a normal account.

Same experience here, you have to watch them VERY closely.

Re: I like Midway and all but...

I don't buy any reloading supplies from midway unless they have brass and bullets on sale and I'm already ordering other stuff. However on non-reloading components they have great prices and VERY fast shipping. They constantly have stuff on sale and if you catch it right you get some amazing deals.

I don't understand all the bagging on Midway. If you don't like their prices, spend your dollar elsewhere, pretty simple!

Re: I like Midway and all but...

+1 on the backorder shipping... what a ripoff. Geez, place an order pay the shipping and be done. Shouldn't matter whether it's in stock. If I wanted to get screwed on shipping mutliple times i'd order everthing individually. And those promo codes should be valid on all items, sale items included.

Re: I like Midway and all but...

As for pricing and service, I used Midsouth for many years. Prices were better and CS is fantastic. Even had lower shipping fees. Lately though they have really gone up on prices.
With Midway, I do find the hard to get things there and they have been better lately about having things in stock. I will not let them backorder anything out of stock because of extra shipping charges.
Sinclair has a flat rate shipping policy and ships B/O merchandise with no extra shipping.
I use Cabela's Visa for just about everything and use the points to buy stuff from them. I've gotten quite a bit of brass over the last year free with my points.
All this just says we have to shop carefully and know how bad we want something.

Well, I've placed probably 8 orders in the past two months and that's not been my experience. Each time the order shipped same day as I placed it and arrived quickly. I got several items on sale and were considerably cheaper than anywhere else on the net.

With that said, I'm new to Midway USA and only been shopping there the past couple months. Maybe they had a bad rep in the past...

The only complaint I have is there shipping seems higher than it should be.

Re: I like Midway and all but...

They did send me an email recently thanking me for being a customer for a year. But that was it, just a thanks, I looked a couple times trying to see if there was a 10% off coupon or something? Most companies send some sort of coupon on birthdays, seems like Midway would since it only happens once a year.

I think Midway should have a reward points system. I mean, even BPS has one. BPS rewards take quite awhile to accrue, but at least they offer one.

When I ordered my Co-Ax press recently, the box was about 3.5'w X 1.5'd and it only cost $15 to ship.

Re: I like Midway and all but...

Midway does offer a birthday discount, I have used it for the past few years, including a week and a half ago. Pretty good deals with the discount. Saved me almost $200 on a $1000 order.

Re: I like Midway and all but...

I haven't tried to run any of Midway's shipping through the calculator lately but in case you haven't looked at a gas or diesel pump recently I'll send a news flash, shipping is through the roof on everything. I do transportation and disposal for a living and I have a small online business and my shipping costs are killing me.

Go down to UPS and try to ship a 5 to 10 pound package and see what it sets you back. (and be sure to include the $4.40 or more in gas you burn to get there and back)

This.

And the guys that are bitching about shipping on backorders... Notice the companies that do that. They are the ones with the cheaper prices. The reason cabelas and sinclair can afford to pay the backorder shipping is because they are raping you on the initial order. I don't get why anyone would ever backorder anything.

Exactly!! Just sign up for the email reminder and buy it once you get the email! How hard is that?

Re: I like Midway and all but...

+1

Its hard to stomach Midway's prices for shipping. And it takes more then a week to get to my door! Maybe I'm spoiled b/c I get free 2 day shipping with an Amazon Prime membership.

Re: I like Midway and all but...

I too can't justify their shipping prices. I am another that sent my C&R FFL to them and now it cost me more. Back in the day I was a huge Midway customer, their sales were great and had free shipping. I still have cases of plastic ammo boxes from 15 years ago. Now, I have not ordered from them in over 5 years. Looking at their policies, I probably won't in the future.

I do order from Cabelas though. I have their credit card and use the points I earn shopping from other places at Cabelas. They have a huge inventory, and it's a fun store to visit.

Re: I like Midway and all but...

I like Midway but they do seem to be way off base on some of the items they sell. I did purchase a Crossbreed holster from them for the same price Crossbreed offers and received it in 4 days versus the six weeks I was quoted from Crossbreed.

Screw Cabela's. They advertise on "Chicago Progressive Talk Radio." It is a communist radio station. I don't mean communist figuratively. Progressives are socialists. Hardcore gun haters in the hands of citizens. I'd rather pay Midway.

It's 820 on the AM dial and if you want to know what the enemy is doing, listen in. I can usually stomach 5 minutes of it before I have to turn it off.

Re: I like Midway and all but...

Over this side of the water Midway are my "shop of last resort" - often two to three times the price of the US and with extortionate delivery charges on top.

It is cheaper and easier to order from Brownells and pay the USPS International Priority shipping plus UK duty and Post office admin charges than get stuff from Midway 30 miles away from my house!

Their delivery times suck - 12 days is typical - Brownells beats that with 7 day delivery door to door including customs clearance!

Not hard but it doesn't guarantee you the product whatsoever. Manufactures don't ship millions of each unit, and on high demand items the shipment received by the retailer could barely cover the current backorders. What that means is if you never backorder the item you could be waiting a VERY long time for that "in stock" e-mail to arrive.

Flip side to that e-mail, everyone gets it at the same time and it's first come first serve. You better not be on the west coast still asleep or at work when it arrives and not checking your e-mail like a hawk. Opps day late and a dollar short.

Re: I like Midway and all but...

I was excited when I sent them my C&R to get the dealer pricing. While their dealer prices are quite a bit lower than their regular prices on some items, I can still get things even cheaper elsewhere. For instance SWFA sells every scope cheaper than Midway dealer prices so I have found a new place to purchase optics. That is one advantage of the internet, a simple Google search and I can find the cheapest possible price on any item I want.

Send your C&R to Grafs. Great prices on optics there.
