Sorry if I posted in the wrong thread. I didn't see anywhere else that discussed gear.

So I'm looking for a tactical, picatiny compatible, LED flashlight. I need one that has a really long battery life and has a hybrid laser sight built in. Something that's very durable as well. I'm planning on using it one my handgun so it needs to be as compact as possible as well. I've been looking at the Streamlight series. Are they worth it?

I have a Streamlight TLR-1 (no laser) and I love it. I have shot thousands of rounds with it attached and have used it alot on building searchs and on contact with suspects. From experience, it is very reliable.

I purposely did not get one with a laser, but that is a different discussion.

Regardless, I would recommend the TLR-2 (I think that one has the laser) based on the TLR-1's performance.

Might look at insight technologies M6X.....it's mil-spec....can get them for pistiols or rifles. I carry one on my duty handgun and it works great. The laser is completely adjustable. I would shop on amazon.com and get it as cheap as you can....or the stream light.....they are basically the same. Just do some comparisons.

Re: I need a tactical flahslight/laser sight.

I have been running a Viridian C5L on my duty pistol for the last several months. I am getting ready to run a review video on it.

I really wasn't expecting much. In fact I was expecting it to go TU on the first SWAT training day I put it though. It didn't. It just keeps going.

I have not been to enamored with lasers, but I have been stuck with the shield a couple times and wanted something that would allow me to aim my handgun without sticking my whole arm in front of the shield.

The benefit of the C5L is that it will fit in any holster for the X300 or Streamlight. I have a Safariland for my M3/G21 and it worked great. I don't know of any current duty holsters that will accept my X400 on the Glock.

The green laser on the C5L has been visible in all conditions I have attempted to use it in. It also has the benefit of being clearly distinguishable from a Taser. The officers that work with me know that if they see a green dot on a suspect, it is not a less-lethal encounter. I have had broad-daylight situations where the red laser on the X400 was not visible. Granted these were at the extreme limit of engagement for the system (100 yards).

Now there are some drawbacks to the C5L. The mounting system is plastic and less than robust. The LED light is sufficient indoors when clearing residences, but it is not something you want for a warehouse or an outdoor engagement.

I am interested in checking out the Viridian X5L (GenII) as is should offer more light and fit in my holster.

Re: I need a tactical flahslight/laser sight.

X300 is about the best weapon light out there, IMHO. It has the brightest, clearest, most tightly focused beam of any lights I have used. Those would include, the Surefire X200A and X300, Streamlight TLR1 and M3X, Insight Procyon, etc.

Even lights that supposedly have higher lumen counts are washed out by the X300 when the beams converge on a wall.

Surefire isn't cheap, but its excellent quality equipment, and its rugged. I had a battery spring on my X200 break, then sent me two because the post office lost the first for a while and it hadn't arrived quick enough for them.
