I am trying to build a 1000 yard rifle on a budget. So far I have a new Savage 10 Fcp-k in .308 and up until today I have had a NIKON prostaff 3-9x50mm with a duplex reticle. I can hit a man sized Target at 565 yards consistently while holding over on a duplex reticle so I expect that todays acquisition will help tremendously. Today I bought a Leupold Mark 4 6-20x50mm lr/t with a mil dot and Target turrets(thanks Heat). Now I need a base, rings and a bipod. I don't have the funds to get all top of the line stuff and I was told by someone that I should go with a ded nutz one piece rail and rings combo (about $60 total)for now until I can afford a farell 20 moa base or similar and some good rings. Or should I just wait until I can afford the goods? I saw someone here had a set of leupold mark 4 rings for $75.....and I can probably get a good 20 moa base for around a $100. Any recommendations? The scope has 30mm tube. My current set up consist of a Leupold standard base and leupold 1 inch standard rings and the new scope won't fit. I would love to hear some suggestions between $100 and $200 preferably for the rings and base. Also what type of bipod should I get, preferrably under $100.

buy once cry once.....built my "1,000" rifle on a Remington action and a Vortex Viper PST scope with Skeins (spelled wrong I know)rings, Weaver one piece 20moa base.

put around 3 grand in the whole thing and got a 4 shot group @ 1,000 the other day.

not bad considering I ran out of scope adjustment and used Kentucky windage...and only 35 rounds through it.

Re: I need help building a 1000 yard rifle please....

You can not go wrong with a Harris bipod. I have been using Vortex tactical rings and have had no problem with them at all. As for a base, Murphy Precision are very good.

Re: I need help building a 1000 yard rifle please....

You ran out of adjustments even with a 20 Moa base? How is that weaver 20moa base by the way? I saw one new on optics planet for $30 and thought about it but I also remembered the old saying that you get what you pay for but if you like it, please let me know.

Re: I need help building a 1000 yard rifle please....

i'm a firm believer in buy once cry once. for my 700 i figured rings and base would only need to be bought once, so i went with seekins rings and a badger base. that's not to say that you can't get it done for less. check the px here, i've seen some pretty good deals to be had.

punisher, what pst do you have 4-16 or 6-24? how much correction did you need at 1k?

Re: I need help building a 1000 yard rifle please....

I'll have to look into the vortex rings and the Murphy precision base. This is great guys, keep the suggestions coming.

Re: I need help building a 1000 yard rifle please....

i went with a pst 6-24 ffp the vortex match rings(seekins) and egw base that i beded on my 700. i am really happy with the set up. i think i will eventually get a better base maybe something like a tps or something. but i haven had an issue with the egw either way im keeping it, ill just put it on my pdog 22-250 if i do decide to upgrade. i dont like the buy once cry once saying because when u spend money on quality gear u never cry... you always jump up and down in joy..

Re: I need help building a 1000 yard rifle please....

I put one of his bases on my Savage 110 and love it. I have a Badger base on my Rem 700 and it is a very well made base as well. I think I paid about 20 ish each for the Vortex rings. Check out DNZ as well.

Re: I need help building a 1000 yard rifle please....

6-24x50 and sighted in @ 100 I had to move it all the way up and use the bottom solid reticle at the top of the target....Everything is great on the set up side, and shimed the back of the scope and see what happens later.

EGW base with TPS rings and be done with it. I have this on 3 of my rifle and it works fine. I have removed the scope and base and POI has only changed slightly.
