Every time I see this forum it brings me back to Nam. I was a young Sgt. on a special forces A-team in the delta. One day we get a call saying there's a chopper inbound with someone who wants to meet us.
This huey lands and who gets out but Martha Raye. She was an honorary Green Beret, a Lt. Col. and a nurse. She walked into our team house and our dog Pecker ran up to her and jammed his snout right in her crotch. Never missing a beat, she looked down and said "I may smell dead down there but I'm very much alive".
She handed those off us who were on site a small St. Christopher medal, then left for our sister camp.
She was a great person.
Thanks for helping me remember....
