photo84993.jpg Shot a few rounds out of my CZ 17 Hornet, then turned it over to Rebecca.
As usual, she showed me up again.
Two 3 round groups at 100 that a dime covers.

I got her a lightweight J frame for Christmas, but the trigger pull is just a bit too heavy for her.
Looks like it will get a touch of gunsmith love here real soon.
She switched over to my 44 Mag Redhawk and did some fine shooting with it too. I had her shoot some 44 Special equivalent loads to minimize the recoil so as not to cause a flinch.

When she smiled at me and said "I like this one" I thought I had lost another gun to her...
    That would have been okay.

Good for you brother . When my love and I were together for the first four years without kids
it was fishing , shooting , camping and hiking . We were best friends and would rather spend time together over anyone else . I still love her with all my heart but kids have a way of changing the dynamic .
Sounds like you hit gold .

Edit : Actually kids , karate lessons , piano lessons , work , house , work changed the dynamic .

    Yes, and it would be time to go shopping at the New Toy Store. Damnit, hate it when that happens. Had the same experience with knuckle buster fishing reels. The wife has a (healthy) addiction to "Islander" Reels;

Yeah, they're stupid expensive (just like my Sig P226.....), but worth every penny. Built like brick shithouses and are works of art. Cry once. Oh, and along the lines of Alpha's comment above; when the kids are grown up and gone, nice things become much more affordable ;).

Wow! And I thought Tibor fly reels were expensive...
My dad's cousin from Ontario loved to fish with a moocher set up.
I might have to give that a try some time while drifting bait through a pass on the outgoing tide.
    What could go wrong? Right?

"We" bought hers a long time ago, and IIRC, it was "only" $450.00 USD back then. That's the other aspect of paying for quality. Sometimes you get lucky and buy something that not only doesn't depreciate, it actually appreciates in value.

Hooking up a respectable Coho or Chinook on a knucklebuster is just shit tons of fun. Takes some technique, but the learning curve is shallow and pretty easy to learn. It's addictive.

We've done some goliath grouper fishing this past summer.
You mentioned a tug of war.
We started with 150lb test. It was a no go. Got a few in but lost a ton of expensive weights and hooks.

Moved up to 200lb and it was better but more of a war and less finesse.

We're now up to 500lb and bigger equipment. The drag is nearly locked down. Broken rods aren't out of the question since a run from the fish pulls the rod down hard down the gunnel.
This is where the tug of war begins.:)

    Mike,

Jesus!, what do you "fillet" something like that with ? A chainsaw ? I know nothing about groupers. I assume they are edible (?). Oh, and getting into the water, next to that thing ? Nope, not unless I've dumped 8 rounds of .45 into it's pea brain.

How long does it take to land something like that ? Your arms must be rubber by the time you get it up to the boat. Multiple guys/shifts playing it ?

I'm sticking with Salmon. Doesn't take a chain motor to get them into the boat. Besides, it's been a long time since I saw a salmon that looked like it could eat me.......

Unfortunately they are still in protected status due to the unregulated fishing from the mid seventies and before.

The fish and game department have been in talks to try a limited take season on them.
Hopefully it's hook and line only. Otherwise the spear fishers will hit them hard and be super selective.
Most wrecks and structure have them and they will steal your catch. Also the numbers of other game fish are down because they are just eating machines.
Go to YouTube and look up goliath eats shark.
