Ok so I am looking at a new surefire flashlight, now what one do I want? I would obvously like something bright and compact but I would also like to be able to mount it to my AR but that would not be its primary role. Also would like to get a red filter.

Any suggestions are appreciated.
thanks!

Re: I think I need a good flashlight

Pick up a HDS clicky or rotary along with a GG&G mount and don't look any further.

Bomb proof light, made in USA and works with primary or rechargable lithium batteries.

Spendy, but will be the last light you need to buy.

I have a 140 EDC, 170 tactical and have a 200 tactical on order. Don't even think about touching any of the other cheaper lights I have around.

Try looking at the VTAC L4 light kit that Kyle Lamb sells. It is a 200 lumen 1 stage E2DL in a Vtac mount and comes in for under 200 bucks. It has the pocket clip and mount and honestly is an awesome piece of kit.

Re: I think I need a good flashlight

I have had an LX2 for awhile now love it. worked awsome during deployment and it was one of the things I always had to have on me. its also small enough to mount if you need to. tail cap has two settings for 25 and 200 lume

Re: I think I need a good flashlight

Rather than going after the "one thing does it all" item, which is a compromise in all roles, start out with a PETZL headlamp as a permanent fixture in your go-to small pouch and build from there.

I'm guessing not having the light on the rail avoids the malfunctions of rail mounted lights on glocks?

I'd also give another nod to Fenix lights or Elzetta if you're open to spending surefire levels of $$$

A Fleshlight is his "American Express card".
Never leave home without it...

Re: I think I need a good flashlight

If you move quick, the Fenix lights are on closeout on many sites. A TK11 or TK12 would fit the bill perfectly. The Surefires are the gold standard, but I think Fenix is the better bargain, as long as buying Chinese isn't agaist your principles.

Re: I think I need a good flashlight

Thanks for the replys guys! I did not realize there were so many flashlights out there. I really like the idea of the coast using AAA batteries. The Fenix looks nice but I really prefer something made in the USA (same reason I will not buy another Nightforce).

Re: I think I need a good flashlight

I've bought 4-6 Solarforce lights and as many LED drop-ins for Surefire G2's from them. They have been excellent so far, and a whole lot cheaper than most of the lights out there. I have one mounted on my 300 BLK SBR. It gets used for hunting pigs at night. It has a good 80-100 yard range, and I've only charged it once in about 1.5 years. I gave one to a friend and he is still running on the original charge in the batteries about a year later.

The best in my opinion is their L2p, single mode Cree R2, set up with a rechargeable battery which they also sell. Here's a link to the light:

The owner has been excellent to deal with so far, though I've bought everything through The Firing Line forums where he has an ongoing thread selling these lights. I don't know if the website is up to date.

Re: I think I need a good flashlight

I have several different ones but the only one i carry is the streamlight tlr 1 for my glock. It fits nicely in the palm of my hand and i work the lever with my thumb. I can quickly attach it to my glock or AR rail. It is very bright and you cant see it in my hand. It is a do all light.

If you want a top-end American made light, check out Malkoff Devices. They're mostly hand made and build like tanks. I love my MD2 Camo:

When I ordered it, the drop in and some other little stuff, Gene's wife wrote a handwritten thank-you note. Doesn't get any better than that! The MD2 makes a great weapon light, too.

IMHO your EDC and weaponlight should not be one and the same. You're much better off getting a separate dedicated light for the gun.
