Beheading in the public square on Friday evening, I will gladly be the axeman.
I've said it a hundred times. Public executions in arenas a stadiums.
And anyone who shows up to watch gets executed too.

Utah has the firing squad. I'll send a nice bottle of 25yo scotch to the guy who shoots one particular asshole thru the neck when its time to get rid of him.
I was working in the Persian Gulf in ‘87 when a guy got busted dealing drugs. He was tried and convicted, and they marched him down to the square and cut his head off. No shit. On the flip side, there was a young couple who were to be married by a family arrangement. Don’t remember the exact details, but one of them was in love with someone else, so they ran off and got married to the person that they were in love with. Their family stoned them to death. There is righteous punishment, but sometimes I just shake my head.
It should start with bringing back corporal punishment in grade school, preferably at an assembly of the student body.
Once you reach the 9th grade, bring in caning, again, in front of the student body.
After 18, public caning along with public service AFTERWARDS.
If that don't work...a small concrete room with few amenities for crime that does not involve a fatality.
Involved in a crime that resulted in a fatality? Death. Even if the fatality was your accomplice or not directly related to your actions.
Death by hanging in public, televised. Be sure to show that they shit down their leg and pissed themselves.

And it should be quick. Arest on Monday. Trial on Tuesday. See clergy on Wednesday. Contemplate on Thursday. Final words/hanging on Friday.
Of the class of people who commit capital crimes none are likely to be deterred by what might happen in 13 years. But Friday? Everybody has something better (than hanging) that they would rather do next Friday.
One of the several reasons that Singapore got rid of public hanging was that some of the New Zealand soldiers based in Singapore (NZ had an infantry battalion and support units based there) would treat it as a day out, get drunk and cause disorder.
Not so much hanging, but execution in the same way the murderer killed their victim in murder trials. This would be a little comfort for the victim's family that the killer suffered under the same circumstances. Eye for an eye and all.
I wouldn't be against a claim of trigger anticipation.
