I'm going to start reloading 308win. I'm shooting with a bolt-action 23" long 1 in 11.25" twist barrel. I don't want to have to single feed my rounds, and want to utilize AICS magazines.

I have been told that 175gr bullets are ideal for this twist. What weight bullets are ideal?

I was looking at 208gr AMAX, and it's BC seemed attractive. Will my barrel stablize this heavy of a bullet?

What range of bullets weights can I shoot accurately from my barrel? Thanks.

What are you shooting and what range? If inside 600 I would try the 155 SMK (palma) bullet. Very nice. If going to 1000 on paper, I would shoot the 175. IMO the .308 Win is a bit small to push heavier bullets efficently, but many will disagree on that. Remember all things being near equal, the lighter bullets kick less and that can mean a lot during a long day.

I run 185 Berger at 2560 fps 42.5 grs of varget. That is out of a 23" rock. FWIW it work well for me.

The 180, 185 and 190 grains should be ok in that twist.

Anything lighter will also be fine

the 155s are ok for 1000 but need to be pushed 2900fps+ to be able to retain enough speed when at 1000 yards. Also the wind pushes them around alot more than say the 175's.

Mostly shooting paper and steel targets out to 1000 yards. I've tried 150gr at 2900 fps but have not been happy with wind drift. I mostly shoot up in mountains and desert, so I frequently get unpredictable and high winds. Looking to see if heavier bullet with high BC can work in my rifle.
