Gentlemen, what twist rate would be ideal to properly stabalize a 44 Mag 265 to 300gr HP bullets? Currently SRT out of AZ uses a match grade 11 5/8" Douglas barrel with a 1-11 twist. However, in speaking with them there they feel a faster twist would be even better. The question is however what would the ideal twist be to stabalize the 265gr to 300gr bullets best at 1000fps out to 200 yds?

Re: Ideal twist rate for suppressed 77/44

I shoot 460gr cast from a 44cal wildcat at 1000fps with a 1:16t douglas. It doesn't keyhole or have any stability issues.

Your 1:11t will stabilize those very very easily from the 44mag.

I also do it within 1000 or lower ASL from PA winters to 95F

Thank you for this informtion it is much appreciated! I have few questions for you if you wouldn't mind helping clarify?

1) Where do you find the bullets you mentoned you are using?
2) Does the bullet you are shooting expand at the 800 to 950fps range?
3) Do I have to worry bout the barrel if I shoot non jackets bullets?
4) Reloading for the suppresed 44Mag. How are you set up for this exatly? Which press, full length dies etc...

Thanks!
