Full illumination of the usable reticle or partial illumination of the center of the reticle on your rifle scope. What would you prefer and why. If you decide to answer please include the reasoning behind your answer.

Just gathering intel on opinions out there. I want to understand people's thought process on why they choose to go one way or the other. I have my opinion, but what's yours?

Re: Illumination, Full or Partial?

Entire reticle dimly so you can accurately use hold overs. I only use illumination in low light.

Then each situation is different, in close quarters just a center dot would be better.

Re: Illumination, Full or Partial?

Center only. If I am hunting/shooting in light so low I need it lit, the distance to target will be relatively short. No need for holdover.

Re: Illumination, Full or Partial?

Thanks for the feed back guys. I find it interesting that even though two manufactures cater to the same market (ie Hensoldt/Schmidt Bender) they will have different illumination of the reticle. Schmidt will illuminate the center of the reticle (like in the P4f) while the Hensoldt will illuminate the entire working part of the reticle.

This is my opinion on illumination too. I prefer just the center lit for my uses.

Re: Illumination, Full or Partial?

I like illuminated reticles on FFP scopes - on low mag they work just like an illuminated dot for fast target acquisition, and at higher mag I prefer the entire reticle to illuminate right up to the duplex posts.

Re: Illumination, Full or Partial?

Got the best of both worlds on my IOR 4-16. Not sure what its supposed to be like on the production models but mine turning down the intensity I have just the center dot lite. Turning up the intensity it bleeds over to the rest of the reticle but doesn't blur it at all. The center dot however is still brighter than the rest of the reticle. Either in reality have their advantages over the other it just comes down to personal preference.

Actually Chris the new H2CMR reticle is totally illuminated. All the way out to the heavy duplex lines.
