IMPACT 737 HELP

Hello fellow hide members.

I need some help. I need someone that has a 737 in .223, or a bolt for 737…

A friend has one and his rifle absolutely will NOT eject. I took a look at the system, and it looks to me like the bolt is over sized. I measured the bolt face and consistently get .388” I measured a couple other bolts I have around and get .378-.379.

This situation is putting a bad taste in my mouth about impact. The customer service has been less than stellar. We sent an email explaining all components and trouble shooting, (a couple actually) and made a few calls, leaving voicemails with no responses for several days. This was all during a prairie dog shooting trip. The rifle was built just a few days before leaving, so no time before hand to get the situation resolved. Finally on the last day of the trip we said what the hell and decided to be rather annoying and start spam calling, which netted a result of an answer.

When the phone was answered, we only mentioned we were having an issue with the action, in which we got the response “ok send it in” No questions of what the issue was, or any trouble shooting suggestions. This led me to believe our email, and voicemails had been viewed/heard, and ignored.

A ship label was supposed to be sent over, it wasn’t. So again a few calls, and days later he finally got a label.

Anyway , rant over. If anyone has a bolt they could measure it’d be great, thanks !!

I have no intention of anything. Just sharing an experience, I haven’t heard much of anything bad about them/him at all. Which is the reason for the post, it’s seems out of the ordinary. Little to no coms. Which I feel will be the same when/if it’s resolved. That’s why I’d like to see if anyone can confirm the sizing of the bolt.

Surely most people would be a bit irritable if they feel like they’ve been ignored, especially when having issues with “the best” product.

What would lead you to this conclusion? Do you know him, anything about him, or the components used? Is it impossible for there to be a problem with an action or just feel like talking shit?

Your buddy is building a rifle and can’t figure out if he has the right bolt face or not. That’s a good sign he has no business assembling rifles

Please tell me what bolt face would be .388”. I’ve never seen an option for any action with that measurement. The correct one was ordered, it was marked correctly on the box. It’s obvious that the bolt face diameter has been narrowed down to be the issue. The question at hand here is not figuring out the “right bolt face to use” it’s figuring out if this particular impact bolt having .008- .010” bigger bolt face than all the other bolts that were measured is the norm.

I’ve had this issue with an impact bolt (308 bolt face), the issue was I replaced the extractor with a poor fitting one from PTG if I remember right. When I used the impact extractor it went away. I used what I had on hand while waiting for the one from impact. Learned my lesson about using the same parts from same mfg.

I could understand an issue with your situation, but this thing is brand spanking new. It wasn’t working right from shot number 1. It worked out well for shitting on him all week though. A guy in our group was using a Howa mini and didn’t have any problems. So of course we had to pick at him all week that a $400 rifle worked without issue. He shot about 800 rounds that week. Dropping the mag after nearly every shot. At least he didn’t have to look far for his brass.

I measured 3 bolt actions (2 tikkas and a rem700), and close to a dozen bolts from AR’s the biggest I found was .383” which is still drastically smaller than the .388 on the bolt in Question. It seems like anyone who hasn’t had an issue is trying to find a reason why I’m wrong here, instead of simply answering the question I asked. This isn’t a shit on impact thread, it’s a “is this par for the course with impact”

Well, first you said you measured 378, which is rim thickness, not a bolt face - a bolt face is supposed to have 8-10 thou clearance from rim thickness. I'm guessing based on your hostility and confusion, you aren't using a high-grade micrometer either, if at all. Impact is a great company and they offered to look at it for free to get it fixed is the take away.

Yeah, I suppose you are right. It measuring 5 thousandth's bigger than any AR bolt would be normal. And yes, they are taking a look at a brand new product that is failing to work properly, for free, after days of no responses.

Three things:

One, be sure that the case is not hitting your windage turret, or you rings. I had a similar issue caused by a Hawkins one piece mount.

Two, I have sequential serial numbers of Impact actions. The pin that attaches the cocking piece snapped. Tate went above and beyond to help resolve my problem.

Three, Impact is not Walmart or Target. Give them time. They don’t have a 24/7 CS team.

Be patient, send in the action.

Thanks for the reply. It’s not making it out of the action to hit anything. As soon as it clears the chamber, it falls off the extractor. Hopefully it’s resolved quick.

Maybe next time your buddy doesn’t take an unfired and untested gun hunting…. Then you won’t have to spam a manufacturer for an answer in 48 hours

He had other rifles, but given that he had just finished this rifle and spent several thousands of dollars on it he wanted to take it. I think most would. He was able to shoot it as a single shot essentially. The only reason he shot it and suffered through the bullshit was to fire form brass. What better place to do that than a trip full of shooting prairie dogs? But from what you’re saying, he shouldn’t have taken it at all. Which makes more sense. Don’t take a new rifle on a trip that involves shooting rats. I feel like you would also say not to take a proven or used rifle because something may break.

I’m done responding to you. You’ve not contributed at all to a solution, only how he’s dumb for different reasons.

It’s going to be an issue with the extractor not the ejector. Things happen. They’ll fix it. You guys should have function checked it first though anyway. If it’s a paid hunt situation, function checking at the house would be top of my list before going even if I couldn’t fire it.

I’m not near any of impacts or I would measure at least a couple 223 bolts for you. I will be surprised if it is a dimensional issue with the bolt body but some slight imperfections on the extractor will keep it from holding the brass that extra split second before the ejector kicks it out of the action. When that happens the brass will fall free enough from the ejector (the ejector reaches its travel limit) that the brass doesn’t get ejected and just drops off the bolt face.

It wasn’t a paid hunt. Just our yearly prairie dog trip. A week away from work and BS. We knew it was an issue before going. But also knew it wasn’t going to be fixed before we left. The rifle has an Ackley chamber and he wanted to fire form While on the trip, that’s the main reason for still taking it. It was during our week long trip we were attempting to contact impact. We also were trying some trouble shooting, different magazines, brands of brass etc to rule out any error on our part before bothering impact.

Hopefully they get it squared away in a timely manner.

If you have a chance and it isnt much trouble it’d be great if you could measure a bolt for me. Thanks
