So I use 3031 for my 223 loads, and like it a lot.

For my 308 are use a lot of 8208, 4064. Here’s my question… I see load data for the 168 grain bullets using 3031.

On a little bit of reading and research, I see lots of guys reference “they used to use this load back in the day… It’s an old match load“.

If it was such a good load, my question is why did it fall out of favor? Just trying to understand how things progress.

Gucci comes in all forms, but 3031 has a very long kernel an some powder dispensers don't cut them very will. 3031 is a very good powder for 308's with a short barrel an lite pills. That said so is H-332 an H-335 those do not burn as clean but they both dispense perfectly.

You should try the 8208 in your 223 loads. If it works, use up your 3031 and switch to 8208.

That's what I did. 3031 doesn't measure well out of a powder hopper and it is not temp stable. After using all of my 3031 up, I switched to 8208 and Alliant AR Comp. No regrets. I get great hopper dispensing and temp stability. Those powders don't cost me any more than 3031 did.
