Just curious if anyone has any load data or actual chrono results with this powder and 175 SMK or 168 SMK. I have been hearing more and more about this powder ever sense someone gave me a box of MK 316 MOD 0 Ammo and told me it was replacing MK 118 LR. Anyone know if this is true? I seemingly became lucky when I found an 8 LB jug (even though I only wanted 1) so i bought it, I hope it works...

Its great powder. I use it for 30-06 and Im trying to decide if I want to use Varget or 4064, they both shoot really well.

Cant help you with .308, still a ways off from being able to tool up, but there should be lots of data for you to mine.

I just shot a few loads yesterday. I heard it likes .308. I'm shooting 168's. At 200 yds I had 3(!) bullets go through same hole! 3 dif times. I haven't got to a max load yet. I also don't have a chronie. I'm just worried how the target looks after I squeeze my 2lb trigger. Savage 10. I will load more later and pin down an awesome load. Try it.

As always YMMV.
42.5 grains Win/BH brass 178 amax 210m primer 20" Rem 700 LTR av vel 2480.
I really liked 44.3 same components but with a 3" OAL.
I soft seated them and they cut knots.

From years ago @300 out of the LTR 10x Super Sniper:

Wind change visible in this group @300 :

42-42.4 with a 185 Berger BTLR/Juggernaut and Lapua brass.
42.4 really shone at 1200 yards and yielded a freakishly small 3 shot group last time I shot my 308.

43.0 IMR 4064/ 168 Nosler CC/ Federal Case/ Wolf LRP/ 2.790". 308 Win. 24" Hart 1-12" barrel. AVG. VEL. 2765FPS. SD-6 ES-19. Shoots .5-.7 MOA out of my rifle.

Work up to 43.0 grains. Many shooters have good results with 41-43 grains W/ a 168 bullet.

My best 30-06 groups are a grain or two below max (M1 Garand and Spring 1903). Id assume you wont need max for .308.

My old (now ancient) M14/M1A load:

Rem brass, f/l resized, flash holes reamed.
SRA 175SMK, 2.815" OAL (max to feed in magazine).
Fed GMM 210M Primer.
42.2gr IMR-4064.

I saw it posted a while back that the MK 316 Mod - 0 was loaded with 41.7 gr of IMR-4064 under a 175 gr SMK. I've had one person insist it was 42.8 gr.
I've used this combo, using 42 gr, FC GMM Brass, and Fed GMM primers and find it to be a very credible load in my 5-R, even with a pretty well worn barrel. I clocked it at 2550 fps avg.

Watching this as I'll be working up a .308 4064 load with 155 SMK Palma bullets.

I'd choose 4895 over 4064 for 155's if limited to IMR's.
I got good accuracy and loads of scoot with that combo.
I think the kernels of 4064 are too long to get the same speeds.

42.2 gr IMR 4064 with 175 SMK, Lapua brass trimmed to 2.006", CCI BR2 primers, 2.2135" to the OGIVE, in a Bartlein 30" with 1:10 RHT is giving me an average of 2711.

I pulled down my MK316 Mod 0 check the charge. I assure you that the load in there is 42.5 Gn of whatever powder is in there, I have heard it was 4064.

Thanks for the heads up. The main reason I'm gonna start with 4064 is I have some. I'll look into the 4895 as well as
Varget and RE15.

I have been looking for H4895 for a while and haven't seen any. I have some Varget, but need more.

I could get 4064 recently. Not sure if the shop still has any.

A side note in 4064. I've been using it in my 375 H&H. Normally have been loading 4895 in my 308s and 30-06 but was running low. 4064 was easy to find so I tried it with good results.

Then back in my powder cabinet I found an old can, the price tag had a date from the late 70s. Just for poops and grins I loaded up some of it and some of the new 4064 and ran them through the chronograph and found no measurable difference. It is also just as accurate in my 4895 loads I've been using for near to 40 years.

This was a start load that I used to break in my rifle. Scope base had issues but load worked, gun is a 700 SPS action and barrel. It is three shot groups but gun was hot it had 60 rounds through it in a short period of time.

Where in Va. Beach? The Armory only had 1lber's

I'm sure that the actual load from first days of this round has been adjusted to meet the speed requirements. Over the years, whenever I have pulled down any Military round to see what's inside I've found the weight of the powder to be all over the place depending on the lot number. Much of it didn't even match with the "spec" in TM43-00001-27.

I picked this up on the way back from PA at green top. I dont frequent the armory too often as I am not too keen on the employees.... I am sure I could sell it and get 1 LB, but if it doesnt work out it will at least be good for surplus/plinking rounds.

Just in case anyone is interested 37 gr of 4064 pushing a 220 RN Bullet is supper accurate in my '98 Krag. (30-40)

I realize this is a super old post but a buddy of mine has been asking me for a starting point for a while now. I stumbled across this response and he wanted me to thank you big time.
