Has (or is) anyone running IMR 4227 in a reduced load for a short barreled rifle? I had diddly luck on loads based on H322, with velocity spreads from 1950-2200fps. So I started poking around, according to recent burn charts 4227 is about 10 spots quicker that H322.

I've loaded some test rounds in a reduced charge for testing, and if the weather holds I'll make a quick trip to the range to runl them this afternoon.

Facepalm. I'm loading a 55gr FMJ-BT in a .223. The barrel is a 10.5".

Thanks, apparently I couldn't brain very well yesterday.

So it took longer than anticipated due to 2.5 weeks of rain and wind (thanks mother nature) but I finally made it to the range. The 4227 performed great. The rifle wasn't overgassed while suppressed, and spent brass dropped right at 3 o'clock, about 5 feet from the shooting position.

So, if anyone is looking for a soft shooting load for a .223/5.56 SBR, you can try 13-14.5gr of the IMR 4227. It will be a bit slow, 14.5 broke 2k FPS barely, but for my purposes it will do just fine. Accuracy was a moot point for me, I have a 2 MOA red dot on the rifle so it was hard to measure.
