IMR 4350 / Hodgdon H4350 interchangeable?

Intended use is for 6.5 Creedmoor. I'm wondering if a 41.5 gr load of H4350 would be interchangeable with a IMR 4350 41.5 gr load.

I seem to remember reading somewhere they are basically the same powder.

They are NOT interchangeable. You should use known data and workup a load for your rifle. There's lots of data for the 6.5 Creedmoor. Take a look on the reloading depot on this forum.

They have similar burn rates, but are not interchangeable. Hodgdons does not list it until 140's although H4350 is listed all the way down to 65 grain bullets. If you look at the 6.5 with 140 amax, the starting load for H4350 is 36 gn @ 49200 psi and IMR4350 is 37 gn @ 47500, max is 40.0c and 41.0c @ 59200psi and 59800psi respectively.

The correct answer is no, and give Hodgdons a call and speak with a tech. Even though in theory the same load will probably recognize less pressure and a bit less velocity(with IMR4350), its best to get answer from the manufacture to remove any doubt.

IMR is a tad faster than the Hodgdon therefore NOTinterchangeable.

They are not "basically" the same. They are very similar. As with any advice, you start low and work up to a load that is accurate and safe. Seems to me that there are at least three different powders that are called 4350 but none of them are "basically" the same. Insofar as using loading data interchangeably, that's the problem. You can't do it. Or, let's say, you shouldn't do it, even though the numbers will be very close, when all is said and done. It's kind of unfortunate that the inexperienced handloader will be confused, especially since, in the old days, there was only one 4350. BB
